Base pay range CA$84,055.00/yr - CA$98,890.00/yr Campus Location: New Westminster Regular / Term: Regular Closing Date: Open until filled, with a first review of candidates on January 9th, 2026 Position Summary We are looking for a Cyber Security Specialist to protect the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of JIBC’s information systems. In this role, you will deliver and continuously improve cybersecurity operations, controls, and practices, while providing technical leadership to strengthen the organization’s overall security posture and ensure compliance with institutional policies, privacy legislation, and legal requirements. You will be a key member of the cybersecurity incident response function, leading and supporting investigations, audits, and risk assessments, including the handling of sensitive security incidents, employee-related matters, and Freedom of Information–related requests. You will oversee security monitoring activities such as log management and SIEM systems, investigate alerts and anomalous activity, evaluate JIBC’s security posture against recognized frameworks (e.g., NIST CSF, CIS Controls), and recommend practical risk mitigation and continuous improvement measures. Working closely with system owners and internal stakeholders, you will help embed security best practices across JIBC’s technology environment and support the ongoing improvement of systems and processes. You will also lead cybersecurity awareness and training initiatives, integrate cybersecurity into business continuity and disaster recovery planning, monitor emerging threats and technologies, collaborate with sector and government partners, and uphold JIBC’s commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion, and Indigenization in all aspects of your work. Qualifications & Requirements Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, MIS, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience IT and/or networking certifications (e.g., PCNSE, CCNA, Network+) Cybersecurity certifications (e.g., CISSP, Security+, CEH, CISM, CISA) Minimum 5 years of experience in an information security–related role Experience managing complex IT and cybersecurity projects Demonstrated experience assessing enterprise cybersecurity risk Experience working in post-secondary and/or public sector environments About JIBC Justice Institute of British Columbia (JIBC) is a public, post‑secondary institution that provides education and training to those who’ll be there to support British Columbians and others around the world, when a life is at stake or when health, safety or property is in jeopardy. What JIBC Offers We offer a total compensation package that includes a benefit plan, which includes Extended Health and Dental Benefits after three months, and enrollment in the College Pension Plan upon hire. In addition, we offer 20 vacation days and 10 Personal Days annually (pro‑rated in first year), as well as generous other leave entitlements. Salary Range $84,055 to $98,890 annually – Fair Comparison Faculty Equivalent Compensation Salary Grid 8 The Compensation Range shown reflects JIBC's range for the role: between 85% and 100% of the sector range control point. In the normal course, employees will be hired, transferred or promoted between 85% - 94% of the control point, based on the knowledge, qualifications and experience for the role, with exceptions in the 95% - 100% range.
