Huawei Canada has an immediate permanent opening for a Senior Engineer - Rendering System (Android). About the team: The Software-Hardware System Optimization Lab continuously improves the power efficiency and performance of smartphone products through software-hardware systems optimization and architecture innovation. We keep tracking the trends of cutting-edge technologies, building the competitive strength of mobile AI, graphics, multimedia, and software architecture for mobile phone products. About the job: Architect, design, and lead the development of core rendering systems and graphics features across diverse computing architectures (CPU, GPU, and NPU). Own the Android rendering architecture within Unreal Engine, ensuring scalability, performance, and maintainability. Drive advanced performance optimization efforts across the entire rendering pipeline. You'll establish performance budgets, profiling best practices, and lead the deep-diving analysis to solve the most challenging bottlenecks on constrained mobile hardware. Lead the technical design and prototyping of next-generation features, leveraging Unreal Engine's capabilities to showcase cutting-edge AI-driven rendering techniques. Mentor junior and mid-level engineers through design discussions, code reviews, and technical guidance, fostering a culture of quality and innovation. Act as a key technical liaison, collaborating with game designers, artists, and GPU driver engineers to define technical requirements and ensure project milestones are met with the highest quality standards. About the ideal candidate: 7+ years of professional software engineering experience, with a significant focus on real-time graphics and rendering systems. Expert-level proficiency in modern C++ and a deep, proven understanding of data-oriented design principles and software architecture in the context of high-performance systems. Deep, hands-on expertise with modern graphics APIs (Vulkan is highly preferred; OpenGL and Metal are also relevant). Expert-level understanding of Unreal Engine's rendering pipeline (RHI, rendering passes, shader compilation, material system). Proven track record of shipping multiple titles or products, with demonstrable contributions to the rendering engine or graphics performance. Mastery of low-level performance profiling and optimization techniques on mobile hardware using tools like Unreal Insights, Android GPU Inspector (AGI), RenderDoc , or platform-specific profilers. Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience. Bonus Points: Experience with GPU-driven rendering pipelines or compute shaders for graphics related tasks. Familiarity with machine learning concepts and their application in rendering (e.g., NPU).
