Job Overview:

The Township of Langley is currently recruiting for up to four full-time Firefighters to join the Protective Services Fire Division. Additional top-qualified candidates will be placed on an eligibility list, maintained for 12 months. Note that placement on the eligibility list does not guarantee employment.

Firefighters in the Township of Langley work as part of a team with career and paid-call firefighters, along with management, to ensure efficient and effective service. Responsibilities include firefighting, maintenance, education, training, and inspection duties, all while complying with municipal policies, Department Operational Guidelines, and recognized safety practices. Firefighters must be capable of making decisions and working independently until a fire officer arrives on the scene. The job requires prolonged and arduous work under adverse conditions. Continuous education and skill advancement through courses and regular training sessions are expected.

Required Qualifications:

Good physical condition and suitability (physically and psychologically) for the position of firefighter. Candidates must pass a health and medical evaluation provided by a qualified third-party medical professional approved by the Township. The cost for screening is the candidate's responsibility. Only those medically suitable for all firefighting duties will be considered. Please refer to NFPA 1582 Chapter 6 for Medical Suitability.
Must be 19 years of age or older by the close date.
No criminal or summary offence convictions related to the role of a firefighter.
Legal entitlement to work in Canada.
Fluency in English (written and verbal).
The Fire Department has a residency requirement. Boundaries include the western border of West Vancouver, metro Vancouver municipalities to the north, the U.S. border to the south, and the eastern borders of Mission and Chilliwack.
This position is defined as a position of trust (Child Safety). Successful candidates must pass a Police Information Check (PIC) as a condition of employment.
Required Certifications and Licenses (must be valid at the time of the closing date):

Diploma, Certificate, or Transcripts demonstrating a minimum of Grade 12 graduation, GED completion, or equivalent (unofficial Transcripts are acceptable). Equivalencies may include a two-year diploma, an undergraduate or applied degree, or a journeyman certificate of a Red Seal Trade Certificate.
NFPA 1001 Level II certification with appropriate IFSAC/ProBoard Seals.
NFPA 472 Operations certification with appropriate IFSAC/ProBoard Seals.
Current recognized first aid certificate relevant to a firefighter and CPR Level C (e.g., First Responder Level III with AED and spinal endorsement; EMA FR, EMR, paramedic license, or equivalent).
Valid BC Class 3 or Class 1 Drivers License with Air Brake Endorsement (restriction 15) or equivalent for vehicles with more than two axles (Automatic transmission is accepted). A current Personal Driving Record (5-year history) obtained within 30 days of the competition closing date must be included. The driving record will be considered in the selection process. Note that a copy of the Drivers Factor Report will not be accepted.
Desirable Training and Experience:

Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT) completed within the last 6 months before the competition closing date.
Completion of fire service-related courses (e.g., auto extrication, rope rescue, confined space, hazardous material, or incident command).
Participation in the delivery of Public Fire and Life Safety Education Programs.
Demonstrated knowledge of various applicable codes and standards.
Work/life skills related to firefighting.
