The Human Early Learning Partnership (HELP) in the School of Population and Public Health, University of British Columbia, seeks a part-time (13.33 FTE/5 hours per week) Research Associate for a one-year term. HELP is a prominent interdisciplinary research centre with a focus on child development, situated within the School of Population and Public Health, in the Faculty of Medicine at the University of British Columbia, one of Canada's premier public research universities ( ). Housed within the Faculty of Medicine, the School of Population and Public Health (SPPH) is an innovative unit that encompasses many of the health-related groupings at UBC as a collaborative venture. The School is structured around four divisions: Occupational and Environmental Health; Health Services and Policy; Epidemiology, Biostatistics and Public Health Practice; and Health in Populations. The resulting mix of professions and disciplines is seen as a means of connecting individuals and learners to galvanize the relationship between health research, public health and health services and to enhance learning. Reporting to Dr. Eva Oberle, Associate Professor, the incumbent will conduct quantitative research using population-based and large-scale data on child health and wellbeing. They will lead and conduct the research using advanced statistical analyses; consult on the statistical analyses of MSc and PhD students and mentor them in writing code; conduct data analysis of the MDI, including analysis of network and survey data and textual and visual data and support grant writing. The successful candidate will hold a PhD in a relevant discipline (e.g. public health, nursing, sociology, anthropology, computer science, statistics, psychometrics or education measurement and data analysis etc.); four or more years’ experience in a research environment and three years’ experience in statistical research and with experience in advanced statistical multi-level and longitudinal modeling techniques. As well they will have expertise and experience in a number of statistical methodologies, and confidence in conducting basic (e.g., regression, ANOVA) and advanced (e.g., multilevel modeling) statistical analyses using software such as R, Mplus, SPSS, Stats, SAS; and knowledge and some experience in using qualitative methodologies and analytic strategies. In addition, the successful candidate will demonstrate a willingness to respect diverse perspectives, including perspectives in conflict with one’s own, and a commitment to enhancing one’s own awareness, knowledge, and skills related to equity, diversity, and inclusion. The expected salary for this position is $9,188.63 per annum.
