Software Engineer 18: Salaries typically range from $94,664 to $126,219 annually, based on qualifications and experience, plus a performance-based incentive. Location Export Development Canada operates in a hybrid work environment, currently requiring employees to work in the office 2 days per week (subject to change). This role can be performed from EDC’s headquarters in Ottawa or from one of our Community Hubs located in Toronto, Mississauga, Montreal, Brossard, Laval, Calgary, Edmonton, Halifax, or Vancouver. Team Overview The Digital & Technology Solutions (DTS) group under the leadership of the Chief Information Officer was established in 2023 with the mission of empowering our customers and colleagues to take on the world, by seamlessly delivering secure and reliable digital experiences. Digital & Technology Solutions has set out to achieve the following objectives for EDC: Define, execute, and sustain the integrated technology target state, target data model and technology operations required to enable EDC’s 2030 business transformation. Establish and manage the rolling 3 Year Digital Roadmap that sequences the technology outcomes required to achieve the technology target state and facilitate its execution across all domains in the organization. Keep pace with industry trends and emerging technologies, ensuring EDC has access to the digital technology tools it needs to stay relevant in the market and grow Canadian global trade. Lead and ensure integrated digital, data, infrastructure, and cybersecurity implementations to create excellent customer, user, and employee experiences. To better position ourselves for success, the Digital Business Platforms group is seeking a Software Engineer or Senior Software & AI Engineer to implement the team's strategic technology vision by building an effective platform that supports the needs of EDC now and in the future. This role is accountable for the hands‑on design, build, support, and operations of the Web Experience Family, responsible for managing the public-facing website and related systems. The primary areas of focus will include automated testing, cyber security compliance, systems integration (incl. expanding support for integration patterns, maintaining an integration catalogue, promoting the use of the platform), monitoring and tuning the platform to maximize the effectiveness of all the technology teams at EDC. The incumbent will also be required to leverage AI to deliver new and exciting features as well as unlock operational efficiencies for the team. The ideal candidate has a strong technical foundation in programming and systems administration, with experience in cloud platforms, DevSecOps, and modern development frameworks, all within the context of corporate enterprise. Strong interpersonal and organizational skills are required to collaborate with the team and stakeholders to translate big plans into achievable timelines and incremental deliverables. What You Will Be Doing Design and implement cloud-based solutions, preferably in the Azure cloud. Able to design and train AI as well as leverage Large Language Models (LLMs). Design and implement robust solutions with Python, or .NET on Azure stack. Advocate for innovative, creative solutions to complex problems that broadly impact EDC. Support Product Owners/Business Analysts in translating business needs into technical solutions. Review systems models, specifications, diagrams, and charts created by other teams to provide direction and advice in areas related to API, integration, and DevSecOps. Guide the adoption of best practices in coding, like SOLID principles, documentation, testing, and other aspects of the software lifecycle. Apply your continually improving understanding of knowledge of EDC’s software, SDLC practices, and the industry in general. Actively participate in knowledge-sharing sessions as a presenter and as an attendee practicing continuous learning. Communicate complex ideas, anticipate potential objections, and persuade others, often at senior levels, to adopt a different point of view. What We Are Looking For Undergraduate degree in Computer Science, Engineering or related field. Minimum 5 years (Level 17) or 7 years’ (Level 18) experience as a Developer. Experience in AI training, finetuning, and inference. Strong proficiency in Python, or C#. Hands‑on experience with backend technologies such as Pytorch, TensorFlow and ASP.NET Core. Advanced knowledge in web services, microservices, and API development. Advanced knowledge in Integration services, including JSON, REST. Proficient with CI/CD tools like Azure DevOps, GitHub, Docker, Kubernetes. Experience with SAST/DAST tools and methodologies; cyber security focused. Ability to approach challenges with innovative, user‑centered solutions. Strong problem‑solving skills, attention to detail, and a passion for innovation. Familiar with enterprise content management systems and related infrastructure. What Will Make You Stand Out Familiarity with Test‑Driven development (TDD) and automated testing. Experience with testing using 3 amigos and Robot Framework. Azure Developer or AI Certifications. Previous experience in financial services industry. Bilingual in both official languages of Canada (English and French).
