GIS Specialist


Apex Systems is a global IT services provider, and our staffing practice has an opening for a GIS Specialist with 2-5 yrs in GIS role with a strong background using ESRI GIS software and data conversion, database management, and GIS digitization to place at our client, a major international retailer.


Client: Major International Retailer


Terms: 6 Month Contract.


Location: Hybrid 2-3 days/week – Mississauga



Responsibilities:

  • Provide GIS support to the enterprise including mapping, spatial analysis, data management, visualizations and technical support.
  • Work with a team to build and maintain a functional enterprise GIS System.
  • Contribute to business development activities including proposals, client meetings and presentations.
  • Build and maintain map templates, layers, and symbol sets for GIS users.
  • Use ETL/Integration technology to convert between common spatial data formats and integrate existing data structures and software.
  • Generate and maintain GIS workflow and process documentation.
  • Gather, compile, migrate and convert data sets for project needs from a variety of internal and external sources
  • Test new GIS software for its ability to fit documented workflows and user needs.
  • A commitment to self-development and ongoing learning and professional development


Principal Duties:

  • Developing and implementing GIS solutions
  • Generate and maintain GIS workflow and process documentation.
  • Prepare various diagrams, charts, maps, and presentation content.
  • Test new GIS software for its ability to fit documented workflows and user needs.
  • Contribute to formalizing requirements, testing and acceptance process for release of GIS applications.
  • Help to maintain technical support documentation for GIS applications and share related knowledge in an effective manner to team members and business users.


Key Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree in GIS discipline
  • Certification in GIS technology / software
  • Minimum of 2-5 years professional experience.
  • Demonstrated abilities in use of ESRI GIS software (ArcMap, ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online , ArcGIS Enterprise, and supporting applications )
  • Understanding of common spatial data structures, formats, and terminology including ESRI Geodatabase and Google KML
  • Experience in data conversion, database management, and GIS digitization and analysis
  • Working experience developing and implementing GIS solutions, especially in the areas of productivity, QA/QC, mobile data capture, geospatial analysis, spatial ETL and workflow automation would be an asset.
  • Experience with Python or equivalent scripting or programming languages
  • Understanding of basic SQL and enterprise RDBMS systems
  • Demonstrated analytical, problem solving and decision-making abilities

Nice to Have:

  • Working knowledge of the following programs would be considered an asset: PowerBI, Tableau, and CARTO
