GROUNDS OPERATOR

Location: Various

Seasonal Contract - exact dates to be determined

Starting Date: Approximately April 2025

Ending Date: Approximately December 2025

8.5 hours per day, Scheduled Mon-Fri 6:30am-3:00pm weather permitting

Rate Of Pay: $24.42/hr

The Wellington Catholic District School Board invites qualified applicants for the seasonal position of Grounds Operator. The Board requires this role for elementary and secondary schools to work mostly in Guelph and Rockwood but may involve work at schools in Elora, Fergus, Erin, Arthur and Mount Forest.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

· Responsible to load and unload equipment daily from its warehouse storage location

· Drive pickup truck with trailer to transport equipment from site to site during the workday

· Provide guidance and support to seasonal grounds students as well as oversight on daily tasks

· Follow a set schedule for maintaining the grounds at schools and Board office locations including tasks such as:

o Cutting grass at school sites using mostly ride on lawn machines

o Using gas trimmer/edger

o Trimming bushes

o Pruning trees

o Raking grass and leaves

o Picking up garbage & debris

o Weeding and mulching beds

o Moving furniture and equipment at school Board locations

o Preparing school sites for school events

o Lining sports fields

· Minor equipment repair as needed

· Assist seasonal grounds students and provide on the job instruction as needed

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

· Minimum Grade 12 diploma or equivalent

· Valid Class G drivers license and ability to meet insurance requirements

· Experience in commercial lawncare, driving a truck and trailer, and providing leadership to others are considered assets.

· Ability to adapt to changing priorities during the workday and plan around school schedules for completing work

· Able to work alone a portion of the time operating the mower and other equipment

· Work in a safe manner and in accordance with the OHSA, fire and electrical safety codes, WHMIS, and all applicable Board H&S policies, procedures. CSA approved footwear is required.

· Effective oral and written communication skills and the ability to read and understand verbal and written instructions, procedures and maintenance manuals
