Role The Technical Sales Engineer/Specialist is a supporting role within the Engineering and Sales Support Teams, providing pre‑ and post‑sales technical assistance for the development and implementation of complex water products, applications, and solutions. The position reports to the Engineered Solution Supervisor in the Water Infrastructure – Transport division and works closely with sales, customer support, and project management teams to support customers. Technical Skills Basic knowledge of required systems and products, including creating and interpreting engineering drawings, production specifications, and testing protocols using CAD, CAM or CAE systems. Ability to review and interpret tender documents, technical specifications, product datasheets, and proposal‑related documents with attention to detail. Soft Skills Strong written and verbal communication skills, able to convey ideas to both technical and non‑technical audiences. Highly organized and detail‑oriented, able to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast‑paced environment. Collaborative team player who builds strong relationships across departments and with external partners. Confident professional presence, able to present information effectively in meetings and customer interactions. Solid project management skills, including planning, coordination, and follow‑through to ensure successful outcomes. Core Responsibilities Pre‑Sales Provide pre‑sales technical support during feasibility, design, and tender stages. Assist the Engineering Team in providing technical and product expertise and researching data to meet customer needs. Collaborate with internal colleagues to review tender documents. Support the sales team in quotation creation for engineered projects. Contribute as a technical consultant to project bid package preparation and review. Provide product and application expertise, design support, and technical drawing support, advising sales on technical requests and implications. Aid Application Engineers and Sales in reviewing all technical documentation for feasibility and technical viability. Post‑Sales Prepare and review technical submittals with the Engineering Team, following up closely with customers for approval. Review specifications to ensure submitted drawings are compliant. Address customer questions on submitted drawings promptly. Collaborate with third‑party vendors to ensure customer requirements are fully met. Work with the requester of post‑sale support to understand the scope of needs. Support project managers in delivering technical solutions to customers and engineers. Assist application engineers in conducting application training for customer service and operations. Participate in Xylem Watermark volunteer activities. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in engineering or equivalent experience required. 0–2+ years of relevant experience; Engineer‑in‑Training (EIT) and recent graduates welcome. Ability to use consistent business processes to achieve desired results and respond to changing needs. Willingness and ability to consistently provide superior customer service. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Strong problem‑solving and negotiation skills. Effective interpersonal skills with customers, coworkers, and management. Strong teamwork and organizational skills with the ability to multi‑task. Proficiency in Microsoft Office products and general computer applications. Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record. Preferred Qualifications Mechanical engineering or automation degree. Knowledge of mechanical and pumping designs; hydraulics, pneumatics, water flow, diesel, gas, and electric motors. Day In The Life Occasional light lifting (10–25 lbs.), job‑site environment. Regularly required to sit or stand, reach, bend, and move around the facility. Regularly required to listen, talk to, and see employees and customers daily. Work Environment Occasional exposure to job‑site conditions (e.g., gas fields, petrochemical refineries, mills, mines, construction sites, industrial/power plants, wastewater treatment plants). Standard office environment free of disagreeable elements. Travel as required to fulfill the duties or as directed by the company.
