Principal DevOps Engineer As a Principal DevOps Engineer, you will shape the future of Safe Software’s infrastructure and deployment systems. You’ll take ownership of our CI / CD pipelines, infrastructure automation, and cloud / on‑prem environments, ensuring systems are resilient, efficient, and secure. In this role, you’ll collaborate closely with development, QA, and IT teams to create seamless delivery experiences and reliable system operations. You’ll mentor engineers, influence DevOps best practices, and help teams across the organization adopt modern, scalable workflows. This is a strategic and hands‑on role for someone who combines deep technical expertise with a passion for enabling others. About The Team The DevOps team at Safe Software empowers developers to deliver high‑quality software quickly and reliably. We design and support the infrastructure, pipelines, and operational practices that make this possible. You’ll join a collaborative, values‑driven team that’s committed to automation, continuous learning, and sustainable systems. We work closely with engineering, QA, and IT teams across the company, supporting both cloud‑based and on‑premises environments in a remote‑friendly setup across Canada. What You’ll Be Doing Design and evolve CI / CD pipelines that support scalable, secure, and efficient delivery. Develop and maintain infrastructure as code using tools like Terraform or Ansible. Optimize hybrid environments (cloud and on‑premises) for performance, cost, and security. Implement and standardize monitoring, logging, and alerting practices across systems. Collaborate with developers, QA, and IT to ensure reliable and seamless deployments. Guide incident response processes and lead post‑mortem practices to improve system resilience. Establish and promote DevOps standards, tools, and automation across teams. Mentor DevOps engineers and support their technical growth and career development. Evaluate and integrate new technologies to support evolving infrastructure needs. Qualifications, Skills, and Competencies 10+ years of experience in software engineering or DevOps, with at least 5 years in senior or leadership roles. Expertise in CI / CD tools such as Jenkins, GitHub Actions, or GitLab CI. Strong proficiency in infrastructure‑as‑code tools like Terraform or CloudFormation. Experience with containerization and orchestration tools such as Docker and Kubernetes. Familiarity with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure) and hybrid infrastructure environments. Strong scripting and automation skills (e.g., Bash, Python) and experience with version control (e.g., Git). Ability to influence DevOps strategy and lead cultural and process improvements across teams. Effective communicator and collaborator with a strategic mindset and a proactive approach. Nice to Have: Experience mentoring DevOps engineers or leading internal learning initiatives. Nice to Have: Familiarity with IT security best practices, compliance, or cost optimization in the cloud. Nice to Have: Involvement in building or scaling platform engineering or DevOps communities of practice. Nice to Have: Experience supporting high‑availability systems or global software deployments.
