Our Vision: Newcomer children, youth and their families thriving in a harmonized, multicultural communityOur Mission: Champion the journey of newcomer children and youthOur Values: Connection, Collaboration and Community Job Objective The Youth Crisis Counsellor position provides support to the NNESSTs (Neighborhood Newcomer Engagement Settlement Support Teams) by providing on-site crisis counselling and referral to clients. Scope of Responsibilities: The primary responsibility of the Youth Crisis Counsellor starts at the point of time the client has been assigned to a counsellor. The Youth Crisis Counsellor is responsible for providing a service to clients that meets Social Work Standards of Practice and Code of Ethics. Crisis Counsellors are responsible for understanding all internal protocols related to risk assessment. Crisis Counsellors are responsible for completing intake duties on as needed basis. Duties Client Assessment and Support Provide short-term crisis counseling with immigrant children and youth in school settings. Conduct assessments, formulate and develop intervention as deemed appropriate by client and worker. Provide appropriate referrals to clients. Participate in training and ongoing staff development for outcome monitoring. Intake Complete intake duties on as needed basis. Assess intakes according to Emergent, Urgent, Semi-urgent and Non-urgent criteria. Referral and follow-up of intakes not assigned as required. Maintain all data including stats and high-risk procedures and protocols pertinent to intake program. Other Supervise practicum students as needed. Engage in on-going professional development including case conferencing, distributing resources to staff, connecting with community resources, and facilitation of in-services. Meetings Attend all staff meetings and report any pertinent information. Participate in appropriate community meetings as required. Skills & Qualifications Counselling skills Analyzing information Decision making Written and verbal communication Resolving conflict Connecting with children The duties and responsibilities outlined above are representative but not all inclusive. Other related duties as required. Qualifications and Requirements: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in social work, psychology, counseling, or a related field. Relevant experience working with immigrant populations, especially youth. Current license, certification or registration required. Previous experience with psychological aspects of care. Second language is an asset. Excellent organizational and time management skills. Familiarity with professional and technical emerging knowledge. Knowledge of immigration laws and policies. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Empathy, cultural sensitivity, and the ability to build trust with clients. Please click the link below to submit your resume and cover letter.
