As a HR Legal Counsel, you will be responsible for providing legal advice and guidance on labour, employment and human rights matters to the Calgary Police Service with a view of ensuring compliance with legislative requirements and risk management. Specific duties include: Provide legal advice on a broad range of human resources related matters including labour, employment, human rights, recruitment, grievance/arbitration, and pension. Advise management on negotiations and other matters involving collective agreements. Develop proactive strategies to minimize legal risks, liaise with external partners, provide labour and employment law training and supervise the legal assistant. Prepare legal documents including contracts, grievance and settlement agreements. Provide strategic legal advice to ensure compliance with relevant law, to minimize risk of litigation, arbitration and liability. Qualifications Must possess a Law degree and be eligible for membership with the Law Society of Alberta. A minimum of 5 years of experience in labour, employment and human rights law is required. Legal experience in a law enforcement environment is desirable. Pre-employment Requirements An enhanced security clearance will be conducted. Successful applicants must provide proof of qualifications. Education obtained from out of country must have or be able to obtain, an Education Credential Assessment (ECA) for confirmation of equivalent credentials. Compensation: Level P4L $156,000 - 195,000 per annum Days of Work: This position typically works a 5 day week with 1 day off in each 3 week cycle.
