SUMMARY OF THE POSITION
Person who participates in identifying the needs of the population and uses the appropriate techniques to implement various community action programs. She/he acts as a resource person for community groups.

SPECIFIC FUNCTIONS
Under the responsibility of the pilot project local steering group and more specifically under the supervision of the CMC local Chayiiyuu Coordinator, the incumbent participates in the identification of the needs of the population served by the Mistissini Pilot project for Community-based Addiction / Wellness recovery program. He/she contributes in the services delivery & development of the project and execute different tasks using appropriate techniques and may act as a resource person for community partners.

He/she have the mandate to offer continuous 1st line services to the individuals with problematic substance misuse, and/or to their significant relationships. Specifically, to:

  • Meet and intervene with people (individuals, families & community) in accordance with the pilot project program and services framework while respecting the policy and procedures of the CBHSSJB.
  • Evaluate the needs of the people served and provides them with assistance and refers them to the appropriate assistance programs within the CMC resources and community partnering services when appropriate.
  • In collaboration with the project therapeutic colleagues, and the person served, contributes to defining a personalized care plan, review and update the care plan.
  • Ensure the proper use of the project intervention and data collection tools.
  • Performs prevention activities, when requested, such as presentations in collaboration with resources within the community network.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings.
  • Participate in pilot project evaluation activities.
  • Carries out any other function related to the Community-based Addiction/Wellness recovery program and at the request of the supervisor.

Education:

  • Must have a college diploma (DEC) in Social Work Techniques or other relevant college discipline from a school recognized by the competent ministry;
  • This job also includes the person who hold a certificate of college studies in Social Work Techniques or Social Assistance Techniques, or any other related fields of studies.

Experience:

  • Work experiences in helping relationships and/or counselling will be an asset.

Knowledge and Abilities:

  • Proper knowledge of the Mistissini social environment and community resources;
  • Knowledge of addiction and substances misuse, about its effects and recovery;
  • Knowledge of Cree culture and social/health issues in Eeyou Istchee;
  • Knowledge of Eenou/Eeyou Pimaatsiiun healing practices;
  • Ability to communicate with people, to run interviews and to establish and maintain a "helping relationship" with individuals served by the program;
  • Must show an ability to write reports in English;
  • Ability to work in collaboration with CMC Community workers, NNADAP workers, other medical/psychosocial/ mental health staff and other resources within Mistissini's community network;
  • Must show initiative, be dynamic, exhibit responsibility and professionalism;
  • Must be open to others and demonstrate tolerance for their values and personal beliefs.

LANGUAGE* Fluent in Cree and English.

OTHER* Willing to participate in trainings related to the project.
