Southwestern Ontario, Canada Voyis Full time

About Voyis: Voyis designs and manufactures high performance underwater optical sensors (lasers, cameras, lights) for autonomous underwater vehicles that expand capability and enhance understanding in underwater surveys and exploration. Our products have enabled our customers to survey more than 10,000km of ocean floor across all 7 continents, helping people better understand those remote, challenging environments. Our mission is to push the limits of what’s possible subsea and enable every underwater vehicle to see the depths like we see the surface. All our products are proudly designed and built in Waterloo. Voyis operates independently and is part of the Covelya Group of companies. What you’ll do: As a Manufacturing Test Automation Engineer at Voyis, you will be responsible for creating software, tools, and processes for component and product-level testing. You will have a core focus on increasing the overall efficiency and accuracy of our test activities in design validation, new product introduction (NPI) as well as production. You will be responsible for the development of new test procedures and setups, including custom hardware fixtures and software scripts. You will leverage your expertise in high-complexity, low-volume manufacturing to perform hands‑on electrical testing, debug circuits with lab equipment, and analyze data to improve our designs and procedures. You will also design wire harnesses for prototyping, NPI as well as test setups. Your ultimate goal is to drive efficient, defect‑free building and robust testing to ensure our underwater products meet the highest standards of reliability. We are looking for someone who is keen to learn and grow with the role as we expand operations. We are a small team with lots of opportunities to solve interesting problems. Everyone is expected to take ownership and go beyond the minimum requirements to achieve our goals, together. Note this is an in‑person role at our headquarters in Waterloo. There may be some opportunities for limited periods of remote work, however the job requires you to be here with the hardware and the team that is building it. Responsibilities: Lead end-to-end testing efforts, from component validation to full product testing on new and existing hardware. Actively participate in New Product Introduction (NPI) activities, developing test strategies and providing design-for-test (DFT) feedback. Design, build, and maintain automated test systems and fixtures by integrating custom hardware and software. Write, debug, and deploy robust, scalable test automation scripts. Perform hands‑on electrical testing and failure analysis using standard lab equipment like oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and multimeters. Design and build wire harnesses to support prototypes, NPI and test stations. Analyze and interpret test data to identify defects, root causes, and areas for design improvement. Collaborate closely with hardware, software and firmware engineers to understand design intent and ensure product testability. Create and maintain clear documentation for test procedures, results, and software tools. Skills you will bring to the table: A Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechatronics, or a closely related technical field. 3+ years of professional experience in a manufacturing test or test automation role. Hands‑on experience with standard electronic test equipment, including oscilloscopes, power supplies, multimeters, and logic analyzers. Proven experience taking a product through a full testing lifecycle, from planning to execution and reporting. Developed the full stack of internal test automation tools, from the front‑end user interface (UI) to the back‑end test logic and database integration. Experience using software development best practices to design, build, and maintain a suite of test automation tools, utilizing Git for version control. The ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and PCB layout files to develop test strategies and debug issues. Experience with embedded systems and robotics communication interfaces such as ethernet networking, USB, I2C, serial/RS485 Bonus Points for: Experience with PCB design software such as Altium Designer or similar Familiarity with setting up and managing databases for logging and analyzing large sets of test data. Experience setting up and managing a test management system. Experience with embedded C/C++ firmware development and debugging. Familiarity with industry standards for electronics manufacturing and testing, such as IPC standards. Experience with optics and optics testing. The Perks: Flexible work hours, lots of vacation, and a dedication to work-life balance Employee‑directed personal education funds to drive continuous learning Profit‑sharing within to celebrate our successes together Regular company‑wide social events Health and vision benefits RRSP Matching Why you should join Voyis: Our team is made up of problem‑solvers, passionate about pushing the boundaries of what’s possible underwater.
