About the Company Flutter Care is a Canadian medtech startup redefining maternal and fetal health through breakthrough human-centered innovation. Our mission is simple: bring more joy, confidence, and connection to every step of the perinatal journey while driving better health outcomes. We equip expectant individuals with intuitive tools that help them make informed decisions and advocate for their wellbeing. We’re a small, dynamic, and resourceful team that moves quickly, collaborates closely, and builds with intention. If you enjoy solving big, complex challenges that truly matter, this is the place to be. Backed by leading investors and accelerators, Flutter Care is on a strong path to becoming a category leader and we’re looking for ambitious talent to help us shape the future. About the Role Flutter Care is seeking an enthusiastic Signal Processing Engineer to join our team and play a key role in advancing wearable health technology designed to transform maternal and fetal care. You’ll turn complex physiological data into robust, actionable insights that power both clinical and user-facing capabilities of our product. The ideal candidate will design and implement advanced signal processing pipelines, develop and rigorously validate algorithms, and work directly with real-world, high-dimensional datasets from our sensing systems. You’ll take ownership of the entire pipeline filters, building preprocessing routines, extracting features, and developing robust detection algorithms that perform reliably under motion, noise, and everyday variability. You’ll be expected to work hands‑on with large, imperfect datasets, rapidly prototype new approaches, and validate algorithms against real signals from real users. This role moves quickly and requires close collaboration across hardware, firmware, and software teams to ensure signal quality end‑to‑end. If you’re energized by tackling complex problems, iterating quickly, and helping build high‑impact health technology from the ground up, we’d love to meet you. Key Responsibilities Data Discovery & Analytics: Turn raw sensor data into actionable insights; characterize signal quality and noise artifacts. Signal Processing Architecture: Design and optimize filtering, feature extraction, denoising, and adaptive algorithms for wearable sensing. Data Analysis & Modeling: Analyze signals to identify noise sources and physiological patterns; develop metrics, simulations, and models to guide system design. Bench Testing & Experiments: Plan and run experiments, benchmarks, and evaluation frameworks to assess system performance. Algorithm Development & Optimization: Build and refine real‑time and offline algorithms using DSP, statistical methods, and ML where appropriate. Firmware & Hardware Collaboration: Partner with electronics and firmware teams to maintain signal integrity, optimize sampling, and co‑develop integrated prototypes. Documentation & Traceability: Maintain clear documentation, validation reports, and version‑controlled algorithm/model artifacts. Prototype Implementation: Implement algorithms in Python or C/C++ and transition them into embedded or production environments with firmware/software teams. Performance Validation: Design validation tests and benchmarks for realistic, physiological, and edge‑case conditions. Cross‑Functional Development: Work with product, clinical, and design teams to turn sensing requirements into algorithmic specifications. Qualifications Required:Bachelor’s or Master’s in Electrical, Biomedical, Computer Engineering, Applied Math, or related field. 3+ years in signal processing or algorithm development, ideally in a startup, R&D, or product‑focused environment. Proficient in Python, Jupyter Notebook, and/or MATLAB for simulation, modeling, and data analysis. Strong foundation in DSP, statistical signal analysis, and time/frequency‑domain methods. Experience with low‑SNR data and noisy real‑world sensors, ideally biomedical (motion, bio‑signals, environmental). Skilled in designing experiments, evaluating datasets, and iterating rapidly based on results. Excellent problem‑solving and cross‑functional communication skills. Maintains high standards of technical documentation for regulated medical products. Thrives in a fast‑paced, dynamic startup environment with ambitious targets. Collaborative team player who can also work independently. Preferred:Experience developing algorithms for wearable or physiological sensing systems. Working knowledge of embedded constraints, real‑time systems, and optimizing algorithms for limited memory/compute. Experience with ML for time‑series modeling, sensor fusion, or anomaly detection. Self‑driven and motivated by technical exploration and continuous improvement. Demonstrated ability to solve complex, unconventional problems when standard methods fall short. Familiarity with medical device standards and regulatory frameworks (ISO 13485, ISO 14971, IEC 60601, etc.). Encouragement to Apply We recognize that candidates may not meet every qualification listed. If you are passionate about our mission and believe you can contribute in unique ways, we encourage you to apply. Your diverse experiences and perspectives can be invaluable to our team. Equal Opportunity Employer Flutter Care is proud to be an equal opportunity employer. We celebrate diversity and are committed to creating an inclusive environment for all employees.
