Career Development Specialist

The Career Development Specialist plays a vital role in assisting students and graduates with their career development and employment goals. Reporting to the Director of Career Services, this position involves providing tailored guidance, resources, and support to individuals pursuing careers in their chosen field. This is a full-time position and will be based out of our Ottawa campus location. This position is on-site at the campus in Ottawa, Ontario. PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILTIES: CAREER DEVELOPMENT: Collaborate with students and graduates to identify career goals and develop personalized employment strategies. Assist with professional document preparation, including resumes, cover letters, and portfolios, tailored to specific roles. Conduct one-on-one coaching sessions to enhance job search skills, interview preparation, and networking strategies. Research and curate job and internship opportunities, matching candidates' skills and interests. Utilize a CRM system to track and document communication and progress with students and graduates. Provide ongoing support and guidance to students and graduates throughout their career development journey, from enrollment to employment. Stay informed about trends and developments in the trades industry to provide relevant and up-to-date career advice and resources. Assist in organizing and participating in career fairs, industry events, and networking opportunities for students and graduates. Support the Career Services team in achieving departmental goals and objectives. FUNCTIONAL COMPETENCIES: Ability to provide tailored career guidance and support to individuals pursuing careers. Proficiency in professional document preparation and job search techniques. Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively engage with students, graduates, employers, and industry professionals. Familiarity with CRM systems for tracking and managing student interactions and employment outcomes. Commitment to staying informed about industry trends, job market demands, and emerging opportunities. QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: Experience working in career services, workforce development, or educational setting. Excellent verbal and written English communications skills. Proven track record in a results-driven environment and experience with meeting targets. Strong detail orientation, time management, and ability to multi-task in order to meet deadlines and achieve targets and objectives. Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: Minimum of 1-2 years of experience in career services, workforce development, a related field, or an educational setting. Post-secondary education (degree/diploma). Must be willing to work on site from the Ottawa Campus (1200 St. Laurent Blvd.) Experience with community outreach and developing relationships with employers considered an asset.
