Consultant Clinical/Counselling Psychologist - Research Clinic Join to apply for the Consultant Clinical/Counselling Psychologist - Research Clinic role at NHS Scotland The Role This is an exciting opportunity for a Consultant Clinical/Counselling Psychologist to play a pivotal role in the establishment and launch of an innovative initiative: the NHS Lanarkshire psychological therapies research and training clinic, based and in collaboration with the University of Strathclyde. Following clinic set-up, the role will transition to overseeing service delivery and system implementation. This post would be particularly suited to someone with experience of working in a clinical health psychology setting and delivering ACT based evidence based psychological interventions. Service development and strategic leadership will be a key part of the role and the post-holder should also have a willingness to contribute to clinical research. Interviews will be held on Friday 9th January 2026. What we'll need you to bring To be eligible for Registration as a Chartered Clinical or Counselling Psychologist as per the requirements laid down by the British Psychological Society (BPS) OR hold a post‑graduate Doctorate in Clinical or Counselling Psychology, which includes academic, research and clinical components OR be granted statement of equivalence by the BPS with respect to qualifications gained overseas Meet the requirements by having attained chartered status via the “grandparenting” route Specific courses in the theory and practice of management and leadership Post qualification training in specialised psychological therapies Experience in the management or co‑ordination of personnel delivering clinical services Experience in policy design and implementation, and service planning at both the local and national level Broad understanding of all relevant professional issues Foundation knowledge of classification and epidemiological issues, including major classification systems the speciality detailed in the role profile (AAMR, DSM-IV, ICD‑I0) and basic knowledge of the classification of other mental disorders Psychopathology in general, and of how psychiatric disorders manifest in individuals attending the service Relevant professional papers such as BPS to the service user group the post relates to Lifespan development issues, including theories of adult development, individual and family life cycle issues Relevant biological and neurological issues The broader context of service delivery, including the history of, and ideologies surrounding services for people with a (including normalisation, social role valorisation, the political economy, human rights, consumerism and advocacy and quality of life models) Social and cultural issues such as gender and ethnicity and their particular impact on service users Please note for all vacancies where a driving licence is required this must be a full UK/EU/EEA licence. It would be great if you also have Post Qualification training/CPD in Leadership Maintain continuing professional development i.e. formal and informal postgraduate training, additional clinical experience etc. in the context of current British Psychological Society and HCPC guidelines Further postgraduate training in supervision of trainee clinical/counselling psychologists and Clinical Associates in Applied Psychology Accredited supervisor Contract type Fixed Term or Secondment for 18 months Part Time 22.2 hours Please note this is a part time post and the salary for this position will be pro‑rata.
