Join to apply for the Geographic (GIS) & Data Science Analyst role at Baird & Associates We are seeking a GIS & Data Science Analyst to support our engineers and scientists by providing geospatial and analytical services across a range of coastal and environmental engineering projects. This role involves both traditional GIS functions and advanced data science applications, focusing on leveraging geospatial and environmental datasets for predictive modeling, machine learning and algorithm development to support technical decision-making and project design. Overview The role supports engineers and scientists with geospatial and analytical services across coastal and environmental engineering projects. It combines traditional GIS functions with advanced data science applications to enable predictive modeling, machine learning and algorithm development for decision-making and project design. Responsibilities Geospatial Data Management & Analysis : Assemble, process and analyze spatial datasets; perform QA/QC and produce geospatial outputs using ArcGIS Pro and other GIS platforms; support metadata development to ensure data traceability, quality and reproducibility. Field Data Collection & Integration : Develop and automate field data collection workflows (e.g., ArcGIS Survey123) and integrate collected data into centralized systems for analysis and modeling; conduct UAV- and boat-based surveys to generate spatial datasets (DEMs, point clouds, orthomosaics). Modeling & Predictive Analytics : Prepare geospatial datasets for numerical and predictive modeling environments (e.g., DHI MIKE, DELFT3D, HEC-RAS, TELEMAC); participate in AI-driven tool development to automate workflows; design and maintain web-based mapping applications and dashboards using ArcGIS Online/Server; produce geospatial deliverables from static maps to interactive dashboards; assist in technical documentation and data-driven insights for reporting. Automation & Programming : Contribute to development, testing and documentation of automated workflows and data processing scripts using Python, R or SQL. Cross-functional & Strategic Support : Support business development with geospatial inputs, visualizations and insights for proposals; perform other duties supporting data integration, algorithm development and advancement of geospatial data science capabilities. Education & Skills Requirements Minimum post-secondary diploma in GIS or geomatics from a Canadian or US accredited college or university. Bachelor’s degree in data science, environmental engineering, geomatics, applied mathematics, computer science or related field is preferred. 3+ years of experience applying data science and geospatial analytics in environmental, coastal and engineering contexts; ArcGIS suite experience preferred. Demonstrated experience in machine learning, AI, statistical modeling, and GIS data processing. Proficient in Python, R and visualization tools such as Power BI or Dash. Experience with field data collection, data management, QA/QC and reporting. Experience with QGIS and equipment from Trimble, Lowrance and Garmin; familiarity with environmental modeling platforms (e.g., MIKE, DELFT3D). Experience processing UAV and bathymetric data; proficiency with MS Excel and familiarity with database processing or scripting tools like MATLAB or Python.
