Job Title: Mainframe MVS / z/OS System Programmer Location: Remote Positions: 1 Experience: 9–13 years (9+ years relevant z/OS System Programming) General Description We are seeking a highly experienced Mainframe MVS / z/OS System Programmer with strong hands-on expertise in z/OS programming, DFSMSdss (DFDSS), and encryption/decryption technologies . The role involves end-to-end responsibility for installation, configuration, migration, performance tuning, security, and high availability of enterprise mainframe environments. The ideal candidate will have deep technical knowledge of z/OS internals, storage, security (RACF), CICS, DB2, performance monitoring, and ISV products, along with strong customer-facing and documentation skills. Key Responsibilities Troubleshoot complex mainframe technical issues and ensure timely resolution Responsible for successful installation, configuration, migration, and upgrades of z/OS and related software Ensure maximum system uptime in compliance with SLA requirements Perform problem determination, root cause analysis (RCA) , and documentation Implement changes to z/OS and installed software with proper change control Participate in analysis, planning, and execution of z/OS upgrades and maintenance (RSUs) Install, test, and customize new IBM and ISV products Work with incident, problem, and change management tools Understand and implement customer-specific requirements Define, implement, and enforce operational processes and best practices Design and execute backup, restore, and disaster recovery strategies for 24x7 environments Plan and manage backup/restoration strategies and test failure scenarios Monitor SLA compliance and guide team members to meet operational targets Conduct audits, testing, and process reviews as required Identify skill gaps and support training and knowledge transfer initiatives Mandatory Skill Set z/OS & System Programming Strong understanding of z/OS services architecture , JES2/JES3 concepts Experience with Parallel Sysplex, GDPS, and Catalog Management PARMLIB configuration and JES customization Expertise in JCL, REXX, CLIST , and Assembler exits (MODIFY exits) Knowledge of z/OS hardware architecture , LPARs, and HMC Storage, Backup & Security Hands-on experience with DFSMSdss (DFDSS) including encryption and decryption , backup, and restoration Strong RACF administration and security experience Expertise in storage capacity planning , configuration, and performance Middleware & Databases Experience installing, upgrading, and supporting CICS and related products Maintain reliability and availability of CICS system software Strong knowledge of CICS commands and transactions (CEMT, CEDA, etc.) Good knowledge of DB2 : SMP/E SQL Online & offline utilities ZPARMs, DB2 logs, BSDS DB2 commands and DDF Performance & Monitoring Install and use performance monitoring tools such as: RMF, SMF SAS, MXG, CA-MICS Strobe, OMEGAMON products Expertise in performance tuning and debugging of z/OS systems and application workloads Strong skills in system performance analysis and capacity planning ISV & Automation Tools Experience installing and supporting ISV products such as: IBM RMM BMC products Vanguard Rocket Software Experience installing, customizing, and maintaining IBM and ISV automation products Knowledge of USS (Unix System Services) management Good to Have Experience in mainframe automation and performance & capacity management Customization of automation and monitoring tools such as: NetView, OPS/MVS, SA z/OS Tivoli Monitoring Suite BMC AO, TEP, Control-O SAS programming skills , including retrofitting SAS/MXG code post-product upgrades Soft Skills / Other Skills Excellent verbal and written communication skills (customer-facing role) Strong documentation and reporting skills Good working knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel, Project, Visio) Strong customer handling and stakeholder management skills Ability to handle high-pressure and unforeseen situations High level of adaptability and ownership Ability to drive organizational values and delivery methodology Experience Requirements Total Experience: 9–13 years Relevant Experience: 9+ years in z/OS System Programming
