Apply today to join our team As a Coordinator with VCH you will: Coordinate the Addiction Recovery Program, a partnership between BC Housing and Vancouver Coastal Health that provides supported transitional housing to people in recovery from drug and alcohol addiction. Coordinate care by assessing eligibility of referral, placing applicants, providing on-going support and crisis intervention as required, and assisting with transitions into permanent housing. Provide supportive counselling using relapse prevention strategies, establish and maintain therapeutic relationships based on respect, provide consultation to other BC Housing tenants and education to BC Housing staff, participate in joint meetings and community team meetings, prepare and maintain appropriate documents according to procedures, and recommend new and revised policy and procedure for program. Qualifications Education & Experience Baccalaureate Degree in a related Health Science from a recognized program. Three (3) years’ recent related experience providing treatment services to individuals with problematic substance use issues and educating both individuals and in groups or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Valid BC Drivers License. Local area travel may require the use of a personal vehicle. Knowledge & Abilities Comprehensive knowledge of public housing and housing issues, both locally and provincially. Broad knowledge of drug and problematic substance use issues, treatment and the recovery process. Broad knowledge of licit and illicit substances and their physical, mental and emotional effects on users. Broad knowledge of mental health issues. Broad knowledge of psychopharmacology (indications and side-effects). Broad knowledge of adult education principles, methods and tools. Broad knowledge of other facilities and community resources. Broad knowledge of other health care disciplines and their role in client care. Broad knowledge of legislation and government policies and procedures that relate to the client and to the program. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with patients and their families, colleagues, physicians, and other health care staff, both one-on-one and in groups. Demonstrated ability to apply knowledge of theory and practice to a case management process. Demonstrated listening and information seeking skills that promotes communication and lead to a co-operative approach to problem solving within a multidisciplinary setting. Demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively. Demonstrated ability to teach, demonstrate and coach clients, co-workers and students both one-on-one and in groups. Demonstrated ability to establish workload priorities, problem solve, adjust to new or unexpected events, and deal effectively with conflict situations. Demonstrated ability to provide consultation, leadership and facilitation. Ability to operate related equipment. Physical ability to perform the duties of the position. Basic computer literacy to operate a computerized client care information system and word processing, spreadsheet, Internet and e-mail software.
