Position Title: Associate Producer, B.C. Today (English Services) Workplace: CBC/Radio-Canada, Vancouver, British Columbia Employment Type: Full Time, Permanent Schedule: Early mornings, evenings, weekends as required Number of Openings: 1 Your Role CBC British Columbia is looking for an Associate Producer for our news and current affairs operation in Vancouver. You will be part of the radio/audio current affairs and video streaming production team working with producers and reporters to deliver highly crafted editorial material for Provincial noon show, B.C.Today and all CBC B.C.'s content platforms. The successful candidate will have strong writing and desktop editing skills and news judgment and be able to work flexible shifts, including early mornings, evenings and weekends. Key Tasks Contribute and pitch ideas for program content; participate in the preparation of program objectives. Direct live radio program team in studio. Obtain studios, crews, lines, uplinks, remotes and other technical and production resources required by the program. Assist in developing program and digital/video content including writing, researching, field production, and/or editing. Prepare scripts; ensure adherence to the style and format of the program. Organize the participation of interviewees, creative contributors and other participants; develop background, introduction, and line of questioning; conduct or arrange for any necessary research; and ensure the briefing of hosts. Maintain contact files. Create content for digital social platforms as required. Participate in the evaluation of all aspects of the production. Adhere to and follow journalistic standards and practices to achieve the high quality standards CBC is known for. Additional Production Tasks Select music, sound effects. Produce program elements. Edit and mix, or direct the editing and mixing of audio and/or visual elements. Write continuity, edit text, edit audio and video for broadcast. Write stories for digital platforms. Log programs and music in appropriate information systems. Assist in maintaining a level of communication or rapport with members of the audience. Perform other production or administrative tasks associated with the smooth functioning of the newsroom, program unit or station. Your Profile Community connections and a deep understanding and appreciation of the diversity of perspective and opinion in Metro Vancouver and across British Columbia. Familiarity and proven connections with Black, Indigenous and People of Colour communities, people living with a disability, and other underrepresented communities in British Columbia and across Canada. Passion for the Metro Vancouver area and B.C. - both stories and issues. Ability to generate, pitch and pursue strong story ideas. Demonstrated ability to work with a team; may occasionally be leading your work group. Strong writing and editorial abilities. Ability to work in a multi-platform environment. Strong and enthusiastic team player. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Curious, quick thinking, incisive and critical thinker. Innovative with programming ideas. Experience using social media to research, develop and source stories. Committed to serving and growing audiences. Willingness to present on-air - an asset. University degree or equivalent, with a minimum of two years in a similar position - preferred.
