Overview The Department of Chemical Engineering & Applied Chemistry in the Faculty of Science & Engineering at the University of Toronto invites applications for a full-time tenure stream position in Process Intensification. The appointment will be at the rank of Assistant Professor, tenure stream with an anticipated start date of July 1, 2026. Qualifications PhD in Chemical Engineering or a related field by the time of appointment Baccalaureate degree in Chemical Engineering or an equivalent discipline Record of excellence in both research and teaching Eligibility to register as a Professional Engineer in Ontario Ability to sustain and lead innovative research that advances global frontiers of knowledge Research and Teaching Focus We seek candidates whose research and teaching interests complement and enhance departmental strengths in areas such as catalysis, thermodynamics, advanced separations, integrated chemical process design and optimization, scaling and modularizing chemical processes, and novel energy inputs, with applications in industrial decarbonization, CO2 capture and conversion, energy efficient processes, the circular economy, and water recovery. The successful candidate will be expected to pursue innovative and independent research, establish an outstanding, competitive, and externally funded research program, and teach in the chemical engineering curriculum at the undergraduate and post-graduate level. Collaborative and inter-disciplinary research and collegial interaction will be important elements of success. Evidence of Excellence Evidence of research excellence may include a record of publications in top-ranked and field-relevant journals or forthcoming publications meeting high international standards, a submitted research statement, presentations at significant conferences, awards and accolades, and strong endorsements from referees. Teaching Excellence Evidence of excellence in teaching will be demonstrated by teaching accomplishments and the teaching dossier, including a teaching statement, sample course materials, and teaching evaluations or other evidence of superior performance in teaching-related activities. Other teaching-related activities can include performance as a teaching assistant or course instructor, leading workshops or seminars, student mentorship, or excellent conference presentations or posters.
