Overview Identity Engineering owns the systems responsible for onboarding all consumers and managing their authentication and verification journeys across affirm’s product surfaces. In this role, you will gain a deep understanding of the business, product, and engineering context, and utilize that context to own and deliver high‑availability and low‑latency systems on the critical paths for all of our products. What You'll Do Break down larger projects into individual tasks, deliver them in multiple phases, and collaborate with others to ensure timely delivery of your work. Support peers and stakeholders in the product development lifecycle by collaborating with product management, design & analytics, articulating technical constraints, and partnering on decisions that take risks and trade‑offs into account. Support the operations and availability of your team’s artifacts by creating and monitoring metrics, escalating when needed, and participating in on‑call efforts. Contribute to a sense of community on your team by engaging in growth and development activities such as the interview process. What We Look For 1.5+ years of experience as a software engineer. Experience designing, developing and launching backend systems, proficient in Python or Kotlin. Familiarity with the building blocks of distributed systems and technologies like AWS, MySQL and Kubernetes. Ability to translate a simple problem or business scenario into a solution that interacts with multiple components, writing clear, well‑tested, extensible code. Comfortable navigating a large code base, debugging others’ code, and providing code‑review feedback. Proactive growth mindset and willingness to seek feedback from team, manager, and stakeholders. Strong verbal and written communication skills that support effective collaboration with a global engineering team. Either practical experience or a bachelor’s degree in a related field. Compensation Pay Grade: LEquity Grade: 5Base pay range per year: $125,000 - $175,000Additional: monthly stipends for health, wellness, and tech spending, and benefits including 100% subsidized medical coverage, dental and vision for you and your dependents.
