The Opportunity

Responsible for operating a variety of machine shop (conventional) equipment and performing all manual machining functions on electric motor and rotating apparatus. Performs repairs, rebuilds and manufactures components, parts, and equipment pieces. Assisting in the mechanical area when required.

The Role

  • Sets up and manually operates a variety of metalworking lathes and milling machines to repair and/or manufacture components for use in electric motors
  • Measures, examines, and tests completed parts to identify possible defects and ensures work completed conforms to specifications and blueprints
  • Examines parts for fractures and repairs cracks using appropriate tools and equipment
  • Makes recommendations for improvements and identifies potential issues
  • When not working in the machine shop area, the individual will learn the mechanics of electric motors and will work on disassembly, assembly and testing of electric motors
  • Assists in the field on customers sites when required
  • Keeps equipment and work area clean and orderly and performs basic preventative maintenance functions on equipment
  • Work independently and with the team to help manage machine shop work flow
  • Understands and adheres to all organizational health and safety policies and procedures and ensures the safety of self and others
  • Understands and adheres to the ISO quality program

The Candidate

  • Education: High School and General Machinist Trade Certification or Machinist Trades Certification
  • Work Experience: 5+ years
  • Knowledge: Mechanical aptitude with willingness to learn and expand knowledge on electric motor trade, welding experience an asset; ability to work within very low tolerances, using micrometers, calipers, and other digital and electronic measuring tools. Attention to detail.
  • Availability: this position is subject to overtime when required
  • Work independently and with the team to help manage machine shop work flow
  • The candidate must be able to communicate, document and take direction in English.
