Software Engineer II, Backend (Identity Decisioning) Affirm is reinventing credit to make it more honest and friendly, giving consumers the flexibility to buy now and pay later without hidden fees or compounding interest. Identity Engineering owns the systems responsible for onboarding all consumers and managing their authentication and verification journeys across all product surfaces. What You'll Do Break down larger projects into individual tasks, deliver them in multiple phases, and collaborate with others to ensure timely delivery. Collaborate with product management, design & analytics during ideation, articulate technical constraints, and partner on decisions that consider risks and trade-offs. Support operations and availability by creating and monitoring metrics, escalating when needed, and participating in on‑call efforts. Contribute to team culture by engaging in growth and development activities such as participating in the interview process. What We Look For 1.5+ years of experience as a software engineer. Experience designing, developing, and launching backend systems; proficient in Python or Kotlin. Familiarity with building blocks of distributed systems, and technologies such as AWS, MySQL, and Kubernetes. Strong ability to take a simple problem or business scenario into a solution that interacts with multiple software components, writing clear, well‑tested, and extensible code. Comfort navigating a large code base, debugging others' code, and providing feedback through code reviews. Proactive ownership of growth, seeking feedback from team, manager, and stakeholders. Strong verbal and written communication skills supporting collaboration with a global engineering team. Either a Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent practical experience. Compensation CAN base pay range per year: $125,000 - $175,000. Employees typically start at the beginning of the pay range.
