Private Property Landscaping Training Specialist I

Help shape a greener, more resilient Edmonton by leading the way in sustainable private property landscaping. This role is a key driver in the City’s climate adaptation efforts, empowering our community to grow a more sustainable future As a Training Specialist I, you will design and deliver a comprehensive education program focused on resilient landscaping practices for private properties. Reporting to the Program Manager of Private Property Landscaping, you will bridge the gap between climate policy and practical action for internal staff, builders, and the general public What will you do? Create and design curriculum, training plans, and multimedia materials for a new private property landscape training program Lead and facilitate training sessions both in-person and online for various audiences Support the development and management of a private property landscape adaptation pilot program, including establishing goals and assessment criteria Collaborate with internal departments and external collaborators to gather feedback and ensure program alignment with climate initiatives Undertake community outreach by leading and facilitating workshops, as well as attending trade shows, and drop-in events to promote climate resilience Prepare reports on training profiles, resource requirements, and program performance milestones Advise on communication plans and marketing strategies to build positive social norms around climate action Assets: Facilitation training or certification Background in energy transition, climate resilience, or climate change science Familiarity with community outreach in a public sector environment Awareness of landscaping principles or Landscape Architecture design Experience in brand design or building education resources from the ground up Skills required for success: Expertise in adult educational principles, techniques, and practices Proficiency in Google Workspace and design software such as Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, InDesign) Skilled in synthesizing research findings into clear, persuasive education materials Advanced written and verbal communication for articulating complex climate information to diverse audiences Experience in layout and content generation for digital and print resources Capability to navigate competing priorities and coordinate with multiple business units Strong organizational and time management skills to meet program deadlines A proactive approach to identifying synergies between different environmental programs Experience presenting course information in classroom, virtual, and pre-recorded formats Alignment to our Cultural Commitments and Leadership Competencies ( Embracing a culture of equity, diversity, reconciliation and inclusion Conditions of Employment: Compliance with the City of Edmonton’s safety standards for Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), such as wearing steel-toe boots, gloves, goggles, sunscreen and coveralls Applicants may be tested Work Environment: Note: This position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement with the flexibility to work from both home and the worksite as per the Letter of Understanding between the City of Edmonton and Civic Service Union 52. This role works in both indoor and outdoor settings. Availability to attend events during the evenings and weekends may be required from time to time.
