About this opportunity Reporting to the Senior Manager, Facilities Engineering, this role is accountable for providing mechanical engineering and process safety support to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operations at the Christina Lake SAGD facility. Location and Schedule Christina Lake North is the primary location, but this posting could fill vacancies at any of the three Oil Sands Operations sites (Christina Lake, Foster Creek, or Sunrise) based on business need. This is a full-time employee position working a shift rotation. Depending on your place of residence and your shift rotation, bus and/or air transportation to/from site is offered from designated departure points in select locations. Foster Creek and Christina Lake have full-service camp facilities. Christina Lake is serviced by flight hubs in Calgary and Edmonton as well as bus transportation to site from La Corey, AB and Lac La Biche, AB. Sunrise is located approximately 100 km northeast of the City of Fort McMurray and is a fly in/fly out remote camp-based position. Cenovus will provide transportation to Sunrise from designated hubs out of Calgary and Edmonton. At the Sunrise site, employees will be provided comfortable camp accommodations and recreational amenities. What you’ll do Provide immediate on-site technical support and expertise on facility non-routine repairs, mechanical alterations/workarounds, alternate products or materials and new equipment installations. Provide guidance and design interpretation for piping and mechanical systems in accordance with corporate specifications, governing codes, acts and regulations (e.g.: ASME B31.1, ASME B31.3, CSA Z662) and recommended practices. Engineering support of work processes prescribed the corporate technical programs such as Pressure Equipment Integrity Management System (PEIMS) and Pipeline Integrity Management Program (PLIMP). Prepare scoping packages for proposed projects: preliminary design, constructability review, business case validation and cost estimating work. Participate in/facilitate operational Risk Assessments and Project Hazard Assessments. Steward to the Cenovus Management of Change (MOC) process. Facilitate and approve abnormal operations and engineer regulated job specific risk assessments to help ensure the safety of equipment, personnel and environment. Who you are Legally authorized to work in Canada. Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering with Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) registration in good standing with APEGA; EITs eligible for P.Eng. may be considered. Minimum of 4 years of relevant mechanical engineering experience; field experience in operating facilities is an asset. Strong knowledge of mechanical and piping codes and standards, including pressure vessels, pressure piping, bolted joints, tanks, online repairs, and applicable codes (ASME B31.1, B31.3, CSA Z662, API). Working knowledge of SAGD processes, facility design, and mechanical integrity practices. Experience with Process Safety Management systems, including risk assessment and PHA facilitation, with demonstrated ability to authenticate professional engineering deliverables. All candidates must be able to pass required pre-employment medical and alcohol/drug assessments. A Class 5 driver’s license and satisfactory driving record are required.
