Overview The Department of Mechanical & Industrial Engineering in the Faculty of Applied Science & Engineering at the University of Toronto invites applications for a full-time tenure stream position in the area of operations research. The appointment will be at the rank of Assistant Professor, with an anticipated start date of July 1, 2026. Qualifications PhD degree in Industrial Engineering, Operations Research, Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, or a related area by the time of appointment, or shortly thereafter, with a demonstrated record of excellence in research and teaching. Candidates whose research and teaching interests complement and enhance existing departmental strengths. The successful candidate will be expected to pursue innovative and independent research, and to establish an outstanding, competitive, and externally funded research program. Undergraduate degree in engineering is preferred, and eligibility for registration as a Professional Engineer is desirable. Evidence of research excellence can be demonstrated by a record of publications in top-ranked and field-relevant journals or forthcoming publications meeting high international standards, the submitted research statement, presentations at significant conferences, awards and accolades, and strong endorsements from referees. Evidence of excellence in teaching will be provided through teaching accomplishments, the teaching dossier (with required materials outlined below) submitted as part of the application, and strong letters of reference. Responsibilities Establish an innovative and independent research program and contribute to the department’s research mission. Teach and supervise at the undergraduate and graduate levels, develop and deliver high-quality courses, and contribute to curriculum development as part of a broad teaching portfolio. Provide evidence of teaching effectiveness through the teaching dossier and letters of reference. Salary Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
