As a Workers’ Compensation Specialist, you will lead the workers’ compensation program for North America, working collaboratively with leaders, employees, insurance providers, government agencies, and health care providers. Your goal will be to develop and manage a fit‑for‑purpose program that supports our employees in safely returning to the workplace. Your success will be measured by the effectiveness of this program and the positive impact it has on both employees and the organization. What We Offer: Work Environment – Work onsite in our beautiful home office building with access to a fitness facility, onsite nurse, and a café Competitive Compensation – Including an annual bonus plan, pension plan, and parking allowance Flexible Benefits Plan – in effect from day one and offers three levels of coverage to select from to meet your unique, personal needs Paid Vacation – Plus an annual option to purchase additional vacation, too Wellness Support – With an annual wellness allowance, paid personal care days and a 24/7 Employee & Family Assistance Program Opportunity to give back to some amazing causes in our community – Choose when and where to make an impact with a paid volunteer day, company volunteer opportunities, and a donation matching program Your Responsibilities: Administer the North America workers’ compensation program, ensuring effective governance and compliance Guide managers and support injured/ill employees through processes tailored to the jurisdiction of occupational injuries Liaise with internal stakeholders (HR, EHS, Benefits, Payroll) and external partners (medical providers, insurers) to coordinate care and claims Manage claims strategically to reduce company costs, focusing on early intervention, return‑to‑work planning, and barrier removal Collaborate with occupational health teams to recommend alternative work solutions for employees unable to return to pre‑injury roles Monitor claim progress and outcomes, develop trend reports, and communicate potential safety risks to stakeholders Oversee financial allocations, managing monthly breakdowns of workers’ compensation costs across divisions Collaborate on the resolution of complex US claims, pursue third‑party recoveries, leverage state funds, participate in appeals, and coach managers on resolution plans Educate and develop managers and HR partners on workers’ compensation processes, co‑lead policy negotiations with brokers, maintain external stakeholder relationships, and ensure compliance with evolving legislation Your Skills: Demonstrated ability to coordinate and manage complex cases Strong written and verbal communication Detailed orientated with excellent organizational skills Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines while managing multiple priorities Your Experience: Post secondary education in a related field is required. Certification in Disability Management would be considered an asset Candidates must have demonstrated experience working in an employer setting, along with a minimum of 3 years of case management experience Workers' compensation experience in Canada U.S. workers' compensation and case management experience is considered an asset Irving Oil is committed to supporting a diverse and inclusive work environment.
