Overview Staff Software Engineer, Android Framework — Toast Every day, thousands of servers, hosts, and chefs use Toast POS to serve millions of guests. We’re building a restaurant platform that helps restaurants adapt and grow, with a focus on Android device software in the Toast Android OS team. We seek a technical leader in the Android OS domain with expertise in the Android framework and a solid understanding of the AOSP architecture. Responsibilities Technically lead the Android OS team to design and develop the next generation of Toast’s Android Platform. Define, design and develop new Android OS framework components and services to meet Toast’s custom hardware needs. Create software designs for large scale AOSP projects using industry best practices and lead the team through development and validation of features. Collaborate with Product Management, Hardware and other partners to build a long term vision for Toast Device capabilities. Make strong technical decisions prioritizing software quality, security, and maintainability. Advance software quality by accelerating adoption of automated testing using modern frameworks and practices. Grow and develop team members through coaching and feedback. Leverage cutting-edge AI tools to enhance development workflow and productivity, contributing to a culture of innovation. Qualifications 8+ years of AOSP development experience customizing the OS for new hardware devices. Experience with Google’s AOSP architecture, developing Android framework services and custom AIDL interfaces. Experience designing large scale software systems for Android devices. Experience working with hardware teams to review and analyze product schematics. Proficient in Java, Kotlin and C++. Experience with CI/CD systems and source control tools (Gerrit, GitHub). Experience working with SOC vendors. Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience. Preferred or Bonus Skills Experience with BSP development and Linux device tree configuration. Experience developing software for point of sale and payment devices. Experience developing Android System applications and networking stack. Understanding of Android security model (SELinux). Experience developing and debugging device drivers. Master's degree in a relevant field. Base salary range: CAD $129,000—$206,000; total rewards include cash compensation, benefits, and equity where applicable.
