Energy Engineer Reporting to the Senior Director of Energy and Sustainability, the Energy Engineer II’s main responsibilities include managing and implementing portfolio‑wide Energy Management Projects for a client’s corporate real estate and operations portfolio. The candidate works closely with Facility Managers, Maintenance Supervisors, Project Specialists, Finance, contractors, consultants, and the client. Technical expertise is required in energy markets and utility rate structures, energy analytics, building operations and BAS/BMS systems (MUST), building conservation and demand management, building energy assessment, energy efficiency measure development, and program management from concept to implementation. Key Duties & Responsibilities Identify and prioritize buildings requiring energy audits through benchmarking analyses. Conduct energy analysis of utility and meter data combined with site assessments to determine energy end‑use, assess existing systems, develop building‑specific energy efficiency measures, and calculate savings. Lead the development and execution of energy‑saving projects, including energy audits, re‑commissioning, and carbon neutral studies. Direct consultants through feasibility studies, design development, tendering, construction, and commissioning phases of energy retrofit projects. Support project management teams in delivering other projects that impact energy consumption. Facilitate tenant communication and engagement. Develop ROI energy projects for annual capital funding and carbon reduction projects for net‑zero investment funding. Implement efficiency measures, manage contractors and staff, develop budgets and reports, and oversee retro‑commissioning and MT&R strategies. Assist in measurement and verification of energy savings measures. Maintain building improvement tracking systems and lead building energy‑saving committees. Interpret global GHG standards, design GHG reporting requirements, and guide development of sustainability metrics. Support internal and external energy reporting and coordinate scheduling of energy report delivery. Develop energy planning scenarios, perform data interpretation and analysis using tools such as Excel, and conduct financial modelling for ROI and cash‑flow of energy projects. Coordinate training and energy awareness initiatives for staff and act as a resource for management and field staff. Perform other duties as required. Knowledge & Skills University degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering and Professional Engineer designation with a minimum of 5 years’ experience in energy management. Experience in utility markets, building optimization/controls, and building systems. Project management experience related to the development and implementation of energy retrofits or programs. Experience in conducting Measurement and Verification per IPMVP standards. Sound knowledge of economic analysis tools (life‑cycle cost analysis, ROI, NPV, payback). Ability to work independently, be a self‑starter, and work with minimal supervision. Understanding of data centers. Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to work with people across multi‑disciplines. Excellent organizational and planning skills. Detail‑oriented, professional, and approachable. Proficiency in report writing and MS Office applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access). Development of building conservation and demand management plans. Conducting building energy assessment and energy efficiency measure development. Strong background in building operations and optimization. Proficiency in Excel and other Microsoft applications. Strong written, oral, and presentation skills. Licenses and/or Professional Accreditation CMVP, CEM, LEED accreditation is an asset. Driver’s License.
