About the Applied Research team: data scientists and content specialists using machine learning, NLP, and generative AI to deliver value. We collaborate with Product and Engineering to maximize business impact across content enrichment, representation learning, recommendations, search, translation, and more, at scale. Role Overview: We seek a Data Scientist II with experience deploying ML models. You will design and implement high-impact AI/ML systems in cross-functional teams with ML Engineers, Data Engineers, and Product. We look for curiosity, collaboration, end-to-end visibility, and the ability to work with large data, language models, and model deployment. Responsibilities Focus on content classification use cases using traditional NLP, LLMs, and generative models Investigate scalable methods for Scribd’s challenging problems Collaborate with Data Scientists, ML Engineers, and ML Data Engineers on cross-functional projects Use a range of algorithms from Scikit-learn and NumPy to PyTorch neural networks and third-party LLM APIs Process large data with Python, SQL, and Spark Communicate approaches and results to stakeholders and write detailed project documentation Requirements 3+ years of post-qualification experience building ML models, with systems at scale and production deployment Proficiency in Python Hands-on experience building ML pipelines and with distributed data processing (e.g., Apache Spark, Databricks) Intermediate level in at least three areas: classification algorithms, NLP, search/IR, NER, deep learning, generative models Intermediate level or greater SQL or PySpark Bachelor’s or Master’s in a quantitative field (Statistics, CS, Data Science, AI, etc.) Compensation Base pay ranges vary by location. Salaries are determined based on role, level, and geographic location. Example ranges: California: $118,000–$184,000; US outside California: $97,000–$175,000; Canada: $123,000 CAD–$164,000 CAD. Equity, benefits, and other compensation are also available. Salaries reflect local cost of labor benchmarks and may vary with experience and other factors.
