Senior Civil Engineer/Project Manager

Overview Senior Civil Engineer/Project Manager - Public Works at Huitt-Zollars, Inc. This full-time role is based in Ontario, California and requires a registered Professional Engineer with five+ years of experience. The position leads civil engineering design, project management, and business development within Huitt-Zollars' Public Works Practice Area, with potential work on projects in Houston and beyond as needed. Role Details Role Description: Civil Engineer (Eng IV) with five+ years of experience and a California Professional Engineer license for the Ontario, CA office. Responsibilities include leadership, project management, and client coordination for public works projects. Location: Ontario, California Employment Type: Full-time (40 hours per week) Compensation Type: Salary Registration(s): Professional Engineer Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering (BSCE) Duties Serve as Civil Engineer in development of design schematics, construction plans, specifications, and estimates Coordinate with EITs, designers and drafters Review shop drawings, perform field observations, and facilitate construction administration Support proposals, scopes, budgets, and manage execution and tracking of projects Complete projects within client specifications, budgets and schedules Coordinate online meetings, prepare meeting agendas, and distribute meeting materials Focus on site development from concept design through construction documents, including grading, floodplain mitigation, drainage, paving, and utilities Coordinate with other disciplines and sub-consultants (Architecture, Structural, MEP, etc.) during design Direct engineers-in-training, CAD technicians, and project support staff to prepare drawings and specifications for permitting and bidding Provide construction administration support (submittal reviews, RFI responses, invoice reviews, progress meetings, site visits) Support scopes of work, labor hour estimates, and project scheduling; communicate with clients as directed Key Responsibilities Lead project management for major projects ($2.0+ million annual billing) Plan and staff projects effectively, monitor progress and budget; deliver on time and to quality Maintain strong client relationships and pursue new business opportunities Adhere to Huitt-Zollars' business processes and quality initiatives Mentor junior staff and contribute to training and development Understand duties, maintain current technical knowledge, and communicate clearly Role Competencies Sharing Information: convey up-to-date information to stakeholders Critical Thinking: evaluate information to avoid bias Executes Strategy: plan and accomplish strategic goals Fosters a Learning Culture: motivate growth and learning Identifies Talent: maintain awareness of internal/external talent needs Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering (BSCE) Registered Professional Engineer in California 5+ years of civil engineering design experience in Public Works Proficiency in AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Excel, and Word Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects with limited supervision Excellent verbal and written communication Ability to present in meetings Ability to design printed and digital engineering documents Clear writing to communicate technical issues and design ideas About Huitt-Zollars Huitt-Zollars, Inc. is a privately held, 100% employee-owned firm established in 1975, providing planning, engineering, architectural and construction management services.
