Southwestern Ontario, Canada Photon Iv Full time

Wireless Systems Engineer ( Baseband & Protocols) The Wireless Systems Engineer will lead the design of the real‑time protocol and baseband stack that enables seamless handover between satellite and terrestrial networks, including transport‑layer adaptation and link‑layer mechanisms. This person will be central to turning AI‑driven predictions into robust, low‑latency connectivity for public‑safety and defense‑grade systems. What you’ll do Design and implement PHY and MAC‑layer algorithms for hybrid satellite‑terrestrial links, including link adaptation, scheduling, and interference mitigation. Develop and optimize protocol‑harmonization and handover‑control logic across TN and NTN (e.g., TCP/UDP/QUIC adaptation, bridging, buffer smoothing, and loss/jitter mitigation). Design, implement, and optimize RRC (Layer 3) procedures for mobility management, connection control, and configuration of radio bearers in hybrid TN/NTN scenarios. Define and implement baseband processing chains and RF‑front‑end interfaces that expose real‑time telemetry and KPIs to the AI layer. Build and maintain high‑fidelity simulation and test environments covering mobility, Doppler, propagation delay, and failure modes. Lead interoperability work with standards such as IEEE 802.16 and relevant 3GPP specs, ensuring compatibility with ruggedized and portable command‑center hardware. Work hand‑in‑hand with AI / ML engineers to close the loop between model predictions and protocol/PHY adaptations, including safe fallback modes. What we’re looking for Degree in Electrical/Computer Engineering or related field; advanced degree or equivalent experience in wireless communications preferred. Deep knowledge of digital communications and baseband signal processing (modulation, coding, synchronization, channel estimation, equalization). Strong experience with PHY/MAC and transport‑layer protocol design and implementation for cellular, satellite, or broadband wireless systems. Proficiency in C/C++ (and ideally Rust) for performance‑critical code; experience with MATLAB or Python for modeling and simulation. Familiarity with RF systems, propagation effects, and link‑budget considerations for satellite and terrestrial environments. Nice to have: SDR and FPGA/SoC experience, prior work on hybrid TN/NTN or public‑safety / defense communications, and background in real‑time embedded systems. If you’re excited about redefining resilient connectivity at the intersection of AI, RF, and mission‑critical networking, reach out with your resume and a short note on relevant projects.
