Pediatric General & Thoracic Surgeon The Hospital for Sick Children Toronto, Ontario, Canada The Division of General and Thoracic Surgery, within the Department of Surgery, at The Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids) and the University of Toronto are inviting applications for up to three permanent full-time faculty positions, for a pediatric surgeon. The effective date of the appointment is flexible, tentatively aiming for 2026. Additional Description The successful candidate should possess strong leadership and communication skills. Evidence of excellence in teaching and research is required. The candidate must be eligible for appointment at the rank of Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor at the University of Toronto. Subspecialty interest is desired. The candidate will participate in the full breadth of pediatric general/thoracic surgery which entails both acute care inpatient and outpatient care. The candidate will take an equal share of call and participate in their share of service coverage including clinic and OR allocations at SickKids and at Humber River Hospital, with all the other staff surgeons. The candidate will participate in the education and training of clinical fellows, residents, and students. Required qualifications include a residency training in pediatric or general surgery. The candidate must qualify for certification by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, or hold equivalent international certification, and for licensure by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario. The Division of General and Thoracic Surgery, within the Department of Surgery at SickKids, is internationally recognized for its contributions to advancing clinical care in academic medicine. This is an exciting time for the Division and the Hospital under the leadership of Dr. Kasper Wang. The successful candidate can anticipate protected time to pursue their academic goals. Applicants must have excellent clinical and surgical care skills for the vast and complex paediatric surgical disorders that present to SickKids. Applicants must also be committed to being fully participating members of high functioning interdisciplinary teams. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to leverage multidisciplinary, clinical, and basic science facilities that are available on the Hospital campus, including the 21-story world renowned Research Institute, and the University of Toronto’s Department of Surgery. Candidates must be able to function proficiently in English and hold an M.D. or equivalent degree. Demonstrated academic excellence in basic or clinical research is required. Depending on qualifications, candidates will be eligible for appointment as a Surgeon-Scientist, or Surgeon-Investigator. Commensurate with qualifications and experience, base remuneration will be in the range of $500,000 to $550,000 CAD per year for 35 hours of work per week plus on call responsibilities to which will be added an equal distribution of billing overages.
