Overview Lead Golang Software Engineer, Commercial Systems – Canonical Canonical is a leading provider of open-source software and operating systems for global enterprise and technology markets. The Commercial Systems unit consists of seven engineering teams that collaborate with other engineering and business groups. Golang plays an integral role in building, deploying and operating services at Canonical. We are hiring for the following teams: The Billing team Designs, develops, and operates a Golang service that turns metrics into billable amounts, enables customers to see current spend, and ensures accurate, reliable billing. Integrates with other engineering, business, and payment systems. Great for engineers interested in billing and payment processing. The Contracts team Designs, develops, and operates a Golang service that becomes the single source of truth for all customer contracts, provides a standardized CPQ capability, and stores signed contracts. Integrates with CRM and accounting systems. Great for engineers interested in sales and revenue processes. The Livepatch team Designs and develops a service for delivering Linux kernel patches to reduce exploit windows for critical vulnerabilities, patching between maintenance windows while the system runs. Golang client and backend components are developed here, with kernel security patches developed by another Canonical team. The Ubuntu Pro backend team Designs and develops backend services for delivering Ubuntu Pro, a comprehensive security-focused subscription. Golang-based backend components are developed here, with security patches handled by Canonical’s Security team. Great for engineers focused on quality, performance, and reliability of operations. Location: Remote in the EMEA region (all teams except Ubuntu Pro) or the AMER region (Ubuntu Pro). The role entails Responsibilities include developing engineering solutions leveraging Golang, leading technical designs, code reviews, and implementation; deploying and operating services; coaching and mentoring colleagues; and developing and evangelizing robust engineering and organizational practices.
