The French Language Resource Centre and its thirteen partners (Peace Wapiti Public School Division, Grande Prairie Public School District, Grande Prairie and District Catholic Schools, Conseil scolaire du Nord-Ouest, High Prairie School Division, Peace River School Division, Holy Family Regional Catholic Division, Northwestern Polytechnic (formerly GPRC), Northwest Regional Learning Consortium, Grande Prairie Public Library, Peace Library System, Canadian Parents for French-Grande Prairie Chapter, Association canadienne-française de l’Alberta de Grande Prairie) are committed to developing bilingualism in Northwestern Alberta by providing a variety of services and educational materials that support French educators.

The FLRC is an official DELF-DALF (Diplôme d’études en langue française - Diplôme approfondi en langue française) exam centre. It also has an official partnership with Académie de Nancy-Metz which develops cooperation in primary and secondary education to strengthen relations between Alberta and France. This partnership allows for French educator job-shadow opportunities, student reciprocal exchanges as well as virtual partnerships between schools. The FLRC organizes quality professional development sessions, cultural events and student exchanges.

The French Language Resource Centre has an ever-changing collection of Alberta Education recommended and supported resources for FSL, Immersion and Francophone programs. This collection includes over 9,000 items; such as pedagogical guides-a varied range of topics, levelled readers, novel studies, educational games, DELF-DALF exam prep guides, as well as all subject area materials including art, music, religion, health and much more.

We invite applications for a Casual Cataloguer , to support the French Language Resource Centre. Work location is flexible but must be able to access a library within the Peace Library System.

Qualifications:

Bilingual (French, English)

Ability to catalogue in French

Knowledge of MARC, RDA, DDC and LCSH

Experience working with ILS, preferably Polaris

Strong computer skills related to word processing, record keeping and in the use of the internet

Self-motivated, ability to prioritze tasks

Ability to work both independently and as part of a team

Exceptional attention to detail

Experience in performing clerical and secretarial work is preferred

Library Technician diploma is an asset

Experience working in an educational setting is preferred

Other combinations of applicable education, training, and experience, which provide the knowledge, abilities, and skills necessary to perform the position may be considered

Duties and Responsibilities:

Perform original and copy cataloguing of materials in all formats according to TRAC standards

Maintain quality control of items, bibliographic, and authority records in Polaris

Ensues the cataloguing workflow meets courier delivery dates and participates in workflow planning and the implementation of any changes

Performs laminating and other processing duties as required

Assists in the development of cataloguing documentation

Cataloguing new and donated materials (including books, audio-visual media, and digital media)

Processing items and readying them for delivery to libraries

Become familiar with all of the FLRC’s resources and maintain a database of these resources

Prepare and repair these resources for processing
