Overview Freelance Interpreter (Tamil/English) at MCIS Language Solutions. The role provides essential spoken interpretation services in community settings to facilitate clear and accurate communication between English and Tamil speakers, ensuring access to vital services for individuals with limited language proficiency. Position Details Position: Freelance Interpreter (English/Tamil) Organization: MCIS Language Solutions Salary / Pay Range: CA$20.00/hr - CA$25.00/hr Job Type: Part-time, Casual, Freelance Location: Canada (flexible; assignments may vary by location) Responsibilities Interpretation: Provide accurate, clear, and professional interpretation between English and Tamil in community settings, including high-pressure environments such as healthcare and legal situations. Cultural Sensitivity: Demonstrate cultural awareness and faithfully convey meaning and tone while respecting cultural nuances. Reading and Oral Translation: Read and orally translate written materials (e.g., forms, medical records, legal documents) as needed, delivering precise translations. Facilitating Access to Services: Help vulnerable populations navigate complex systems (healthcare, law enforcement, social services) to access essential services. Travel: Travel to assignment locations as required; access via car, public transportation, or other means. Flexibility is key. Remote Assignments: Handle over-the-phone or video interpretation assignments as applicable. Professionalism and Confidentiality: Maintain professionalism and confidentiality in sensitive contexts (healthcare, legal, etc.). Qualifications Fluency in English and Tamil (written and spoken) required. Reading Proficiency: Ability to read and interpret written documents and translate them orally with clarity. Soft Skills: Strong interpersonal skills, empathy, patience, and commitment to service; able to build rapport across diverse cultural backgrounds. Transportation: Ability to travel to different locations as needed; reliable transportation. Legal Eligibility: Must be legally eligible to work in Canada. Training And Support Training: MCIS provides a free online training module to prepare you for assignments; must be completed before starting work.
