As a Lead Data Scientist, you will lead various initiatives through clever use of data and advanced analytics. You will be responsible for providing significant business value through the creation; maintenance; implementation of analytical models. You will also effectively communicate findings and recommendations to a business audience. How you will create impact: Lead data science projects with guidance from your manager, including giving direction and training to more junior colleagues as well as reviewing their work. Accountable for the model performance in the specific context of the business problem to solve. Accountable that the outcome of the projects you lead meet the business objectives. Autonomously design data science projects by breaking complex problems or high-level business objectives into smaller problems that can be addressed using data science. Champion the use of a scientific methodology in all projects, tasks, and interactions. Advise on the application of data science techniques on new and existing business problems, utilizing trends in the insurance market. Autonomously make recommendations, and influence your audience towards an outcome, including management. How you will succeed: You have an innovative mindset to improve operational efficiencies and ability to influence change, with a primary focus on client needs. You use critical thinking skills to recognize assumptions, evaluate arguments, draw conclusions and proactively propose solutions. You have strong communication skills to clearly convey messages and explore diverse points of view. You build trusting relationships and provide guidance to support the development of colleagues. To join our team: You have 10 years of experience in Data Science or another related field. You have a Bachelor’s Degree in Actuarial, Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, or any other relevant field. Having a Master’s degree and ACAS or FCAS designations are considered an asset. You have strong/excellent knowledge and understanding of: Data analysis, Programing/tools, Modelling techniques, Data warehouse/data management, Research, Architecture/design. You can lead others to solve complex problems; uses analytical thinking, tools, and judgement to identify innovative solutions. You find the best solution to address specific business need, based on industry best practices. Experience with following technologies is required: Python and SQL This position primarily works with majority non-francophone groups, and teams located outside of Québec, and requires proficiency in English. The essential non-French duties are not assignable to adjacent or other team members. Expected salary range $104,717 – $154,717+ The salary amount for the successful candidate is determined by Co-operators in its discretion and will vary depending on several criteria including but not limited to: local market conditions, geography and relevant job-related factors such as knowledge, skills, qualification, experience and education.
