The opportunity The Cultural Integration Lead – Indigenous position is designed to develop, facilitate and deliver Indigenous cultural programming, and to support the inclusion of culturally responsive and respectful integration of First Nations, Métis and Inuit protocols and processes across the University of Manitoba. This role has been created to focus on several responsibilities that are essential to the success of the Cultural Integration team. Their primary focus will include developing, facilitating, and delivering Indigenous Cultural Programming that leads cultural integration across the UM campus community. This will also include planning large‑ and small‑scale cultural events, administrative tasks related to programming and creating partnerships and collaboration. The position is responsible for providing effective program coordination that supports the vision and strategic plans of the Cultural Integration team, the Associate Vice‑President Indigenous of Students, Community and Cultural Integration, OVPI and the larger UM Community. The role will perform and lead a broad and diverse range of duties that require flexibility, reliability, integrity in Indigenous community, knowledge of Indigenous cultural practices and traditional knowledge. High priority is placed on collaborative and reciprocal relationship building. The Cultural Integration Lead (Indigenous) will report to the Director, Cultural Integration with the Office of the Vice‑President (Indigenous). Qualifications and experience we’re looking for Undergraduate degree in related discipline is required. Four years of directly related experience is required. Expertise, experience, competency and demonstrated knowledge of Indigenous cultures, histories and ceremonies is required. Demonstrated experience in leading cultural programming or learning sessions required, preferably at the post‑secondary level in a similar capacity. Directly related cultural experience in a complex environment is required (government, university, large Experience working with First Nations, Métis, and Inuit communities is required. Must have experience working with Elders. Demonstrated leadership experience is required. Demonstrated experience in project planning is required. Demonstrated knowledge of diverse Indigenous cultural protocols is required. Experience in public speaking, giving presentations, advocacy, report writing, and event planning is required. Experience in fostering reconciliation initiatives with diverse peoples is required. Experience with budgeting is required. Strategic planning experience would be considered an asset. An acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. A high degree of specialized cultural knowledge in First Nations, Métis and Inuit cultures, ceremonies and histories is required. Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills. Must have creative problem solving and conflict resolution skills with the ability to make culturally appropriate sound decisions with considerations of intersectionality. Must have exceptional interpersonal skills including confidentiality, diplomacy and tact and ability to establish and maintain effective reciprocal relationships with various levels of internal and external contacts. Must have demonstrated excellent organizational skills, time management skills and ability to work independently. Proficient in multi‑tasking to meet multiple deadlines with attention to detail is required. Ability toork independently and in a team environment with demonstrated ability to supervise employees and volunteers is required. High degree of competency with word processing, spreadsheet, presentation, and online meeting software is required. High integrity within Indigenous communities, be reliable and have strong knowledge of First Nations, Métis and Inuit ways of being, knowing and doing is required. Demonstrated ability to work in close collaboration and partnership with academic and administrative colleagues, students, alumni, Elders, and community partners is required. Ability to motivate others to lead, create, and implement new programs and services with key stakeholders from other units is required. Ability to foster the values of open‑mindedness, cultural sensitivity, and respect is required. Ability to identify potential hazards, assess risks and work in collaboration with units on campus to determine control measures to eliminate or reduce risk. Ability to use sound judgment, assess situations and determine appropriate action. Satisfactory work record, including satisfactory attendance and punctuality, is required.
