Speech Language Pathologist – Michael Garron Hospital Overview The Speech Language Pathologist is responsible and accountable to the Manager, Interprofessional Practice for the provision of quality care, assessment, treatment, education and counselling to patients with swallowing and communication impairments as established by the College of Audiologists and Speech Language Pathologists of Ontario (CASLPO) and the standards of speech language pathology care of the hospital and its affiliates. The role primarily supports patients in General Internal Medicine & Emergency Department; however, coverage requirements exist in ICU, Complex Continuing Care, Respirology, Surgery, and Stroke. Participation in clinical education and staff onboarding are requirements, and rotation into weekends is mandatory. Education Master's Degree in Speech Language Pathology. Registered and in good standing with the College of Audiologists and Speech Language Pathologists of Ontario (CASLPO). Qualifications Minimum of 2 years experience in acute care hospital-based SLP care delivery; preference for recent experience in cardio‑respiratory, geriatrics, surgery, ICU, cardiology, acute general medicine and stroke. Experience with video fluorographic swallow studies is required. Experience with tracheostomized individuals is an asset. Experience with AAC and communication disorders is an asset. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Demonstrated ability to function as an effective interdisciplinary team member. Willingness to participate/lead health service councils and task groups. Motivated to practice in accordance with the mission and vision of the hospital/health service. Demonstrated commitment to continuing education and personal development. Evening and weekend shifts may be necessary on rotation. Good work and attendance record required.
