Soft Goods Department Manager – Winnipeg We’re currently looking for a Department Manager to join our team in Winnipeg. MEC is a hub for the outdoor community, a leader in sustainability, and a place where you can be yourself. Overview You’ll lead the Soft Goods department, manage a high‑performing crew, and create an engaging culture that supports members’ adventures. Responsibilities Promote MEC principles, culture, vision, and purpose to all store staff. Ensure store operations are efficient, consistent, and deliver an awesome member experience. Identify store hiring needs, manage recruitment and selection, and stay within payroll budgets. Conduct regular check‑ins with all store staff to keep communication open and gather feedback on staff satisfaction, fostering a positive workplace culture in line with MEC values. Maintain the store’s visual presentation to deliver an outstanding experience for everyone who steps inside. Create a healthy, safe work environment for staff and store visitors. Continuously learn about new products, technology, and features. Help more people in Canada get active outside, planning for families or backcountry expeditions. Qualifications Passionate about the outdoors and teamwork. “Can do” attitude with strong learning drive. Integrity, customer focus, initiative, character, and teamwork. Excellent customer service mindset and membership experience. Physical ability: lift 50 lb and walk 10,000 steps per day. At least one year of experience in a similar retail role. Strong organization and multitasking skills. Demonstrated conflict management, communication, ambiguity handling, and results driving in retail. Curious about gear with willingness to learn.
