Cloud Security Specialist

Overview We are seeking a highly skilled and versatile Microsoft Cybersecurity Architect to join AMTRA Solutions. This hybrid role combines deep operational expertise in security threat detection and response with advanced architectural design for cloud environments. It involves immediate, hands-on management of security incidents and the strategic management of secure, scalable, and cost-effective solutions on the Azure platform. The ideal candidate will leverage tools such as Microsoft Defender for Cloud, Microsoft Defender for Endpoint, Microsoft Sentinel, and Microsoft 365 Defender to monitor, detect, and neutralize active threats. They will translate business requirements into robust technical architectures, ensuring that security controls, monitoring, and alerting are integrated from the outset. By bridging proactive design with reactive operations, this role supports continuous improvement—using insights from real-world incidents to inform future recommendations. The candidate will help the organization maintain a strong security posture, adapt to evolving threats, and deliver resilient cloud solutions that support business objectives. This client-facing role requires exceptional communication skills, a commitment to continuous learning, and the ability to build trusted advisor relationships. ACCOUNTABILITIES Deliver on managed services agreement scope (proactive maintenance and reactive support) as it relates to Azure and Security offerings. Collaborate with clients to align Security and Azure strategies with business needs. Contribute to Managed Services Team Scrums and incident response coordination meetings, ensuring alignment across teams and surfacing challenges or escalations. Spend 90% of your time contributing directly to billable utilization. Support the delivery of a client’s agreement and assisting in ticket management escalation. AREA OF CONTRIBUTION Internal SME for managed security and Azure services, overseeing delivery quality and escalation handling Contribute to monthly security posture reports, including Defender for Office, Sentinel, and Azure Secure Score analysis. Lead discussions on threat vulnerability management, ASR rules, Defender automation, and MFA enforcement strategies. Technical leadership in managed services proposals and onboarding documentation, ensuring alignment with client expectations and internal delivery capabilities. Participate in strategic meetings, contributing insights on Sentinel integration, MFA modernization, and device compliance. Interfaces with clients to understand pain points and translate them into service improvements. Communicates change clearly and proactively. Plans for scale — oversee the implementation of best practices for managing and maintaining client environments, ensuring security, reliability, and efficiency. Building Trusted Advisor Relationships: Establish and maintain strong relationships with clients, providing expert guidance and recommendations to enhance their security and cloud management strategies. Oversee and respond to incidents and requests to ensure timely ticket closure. Act as an escalation point for requests and incidents, helping determine root causes and communicating appropriately to internal and external customers. Identify needs, and respond or escalate opportunities to grow the client engagement. Support reporting governance and delivery. COMPETENCIES Expertise in the Microsoft Defender suite of products Strong SQL knowledge is desirable Excellent communication and client engagement capabilities Background in Microsoft technology solution development and delivery Stays current with evolving endpoint technologies as they apply to enterprise environments Values certifications and hands-on labs Excellent time management, organizational, and prioritisation skills and ability to balance multiple priorities MINIMUM POSITION QUALIFICATIONS 5+ years in cloud engineering, architecture, or administration 3+ years in Azure security operations, including hands-on experience with Microsoft Sentinel, Microsoft Defender for Cloud, and Microsoft 365 Defender Deep expertise in: Azure infrastructure: networking, storage, identity, and governance Security architecture design: Zero Trust, CNAPP/CSPM integrations, GRC strategies Security tools: Microsoft Defender suite, Sentinel (KQL, analytics, automation), Intune Exposure and skill in Infrastructure-as-Code: PowerShell, ARM templates, Terraform desired Familiarity with compliance frameworks: ISO, NIST, GDPR, HIPAA, PCI DSS Experience as a Technical Architect, designing the technical aspects of implementations/configurations Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills, with the ability to quickly identify and resolve complex technical issues Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with clients and team members alike SC-100: Microsoft Certified Cybersecurity Architect Expert preferred Relevant certifications, such as Microsoft Certified: SC-200, AZ-500, SC-300 or equivalent, are highly desirable Seniority level Mid-Senior level Employment type Full-time Job function Information Technology Greater Calgary Metropolitan Area references and related job postings are included for context but do not form part of the core responsibilities. #J-18808-Ljbffr
