Northern Lincolnshire and Goole NHS Foundation Trust Closing date: 04 January 2026 The Specialist Nurse is a role integral to the ongoing development of the Colorectal/Stoma service. The overall purpose of the role is to strategically plan, implement and evaluate the Colorectal/Stoma service in conjunction with local and national guidance, ensuring that the views of staff and patients are incorporated in the development of the strategic direction of the service. The Specialist Nurse will have a key role in the continuing development of the colorectal and stoma service for patients with cancer and colorectal problems. To work autonomously, but complementary to, the surgical team in managing the care of patients with colorectal disease. Person Specification Education and Qualifications BSc Adult Nursing or equivalent 2 years current experience within the field at Band 5 equivalent or above Evidence of in‑depth post‑registration development in the relevant field (e.g., Foundation Course in Stoma Care, ENB 998 or equivalent teaching/facilitation qualification or experience) Completed First Level Degree Communication / counselling qualification Post registration teaching qualification Knowledge and Skills Experience within acute surgery/colorectal/gastroenterology services Sound knowledge of bowel anatomy and surgery A track record of practice excellence and innovation Ability to provide and receive highly complex or sensitive information Ability to make clinical judgements involving complex facts or situations Effective leadership and assertiveness skills Ability to manage own workload without direct supervision Management experience at ward level Previous involvement in change management Experience of stoma care with knowledge of appliances and accessories Communication and interpersonal skills Effective verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills Able to work independently and as part of a team Experience of patient advocacy Disclosure and Barring Service Check This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and a disclosure to the Disclosure and Barring Service will be required to check for any previous criminal convictions.
