Provides health physics support to the Projects Group under the direction of the Projects Director. This role leads the implementation of key aspects of the Radiation Safety Program across EnergySolutions Canada facilities and client project sites. The Health Physicist acts as a subject matter expert in identifying, assessing, and mitigating radiological hazards, ensuring compliance with all applicable regulatory requirements, including those of the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC). The role supports client projects involving shipping, radiological characterization, safeguards, and CNSC licensing. In addition, the Health Physicist manages the staff and resources required to implement the radiation safety program and supports projects requiring health physics expertise in the areas of regulatory compliance, decommissioning, radiation safety program development, and radiological hazard assessment and mitigation . Job Description / Tasks / Responsibilities Provide expert Health Physics support to the Projects Group under the direction of the Projects Director, supporting both EnergySolutions Canada facilities and client project sites. Act as a subject matter expert in identifying, assessing, and mitigating radiological hazards across a range of activities including project work, radiological characterization, safeguards, shipping, and CNSC compliance. Support projects requiring health physics expertise in regulatory compliance, decommissioning, radiation safety program development, and radiological hazard assessment and mitigation. Assist the Radiation Safety Officer (RSO) in the implementation of the Radiation Safety Program and compliance with CNSC and other regulatory requirements. Conduct and review Radiation Risk Assessments (RRAs), Radiation Work Permits (RWPs), radiological procedures, and license submissions. Perform and review waste characterization calculations and prepare supporting documentation and technical reports for both facility and project activities. Support international and domestic shipments of radioactive materials in compliance with transport and export regulations. Develop and deliver Radiation Protection training to staff and contractors to promote regulatory compliance and safe work practices. Provide Health Physics support for field operations, including oversight of radiological surveys, safety controls, and data analysis. Manage and support Decontamination & Decommissioning (D&D) projects, including survey design, remediation planning, and final status reporting. Support radioactive waste management activities, including classification, handling, packaging, and disposal in accordance with regulatory and project requirements. Supervise and manage a team of frontline Health Physics staff. Provide coaching, mentoring, performance management, and disciplinary oversight to ensure high performance and professional development. Conduct detailed technical and regulatory reviews of CNSC license applications, including Waste Nuclear Substances Licenses, Nuclear Substances and Radiation Devices Licenses, and Decommissioning submissions. Advise on nuclear safety standards, radiological protection, environmental monitoring, and risk management to support both daily operations and long-term planning. Communicate and uphold company policies and ensure compliance across operational teams and project staff. Interface with clients, regulators, and internal stakeholders to ensure successful project execution and regulatory alignment. Participate in the on-call Health Physics emergency response team, as required. Perform other duties as assigned to support departmental and organizational goals. Job Requirements / Skills Strong understanding of CNSC regulations and relevant guidance documents. Experience in decommissioning, radioactive materials management, and radiation safety program development. Demonstrated leadership ability and experience managing technical teams. Proficiency with radiological assessment tools and software. Strong communication, project coordination, and report writing skills. Good command of spoken and written English Good interpersonal skills Ability to work as part of and manage and organize a team Ability to travel to project sites as required. Minimum Education, Experience and Certification Requirements Bachelor’s degree in Health Physics, Radiological Engineering, Nuclear Science, or a related discipline (Master’s preferred). Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in health physics or radiation protection, ideally in a project or field-based environment. Attend Quality Management System Training Certifications : Full Driving License. Passport essential Certification or eligibility for certification by the Canadian Radiation Protection Association (CRPA) or American Board of Health Physics (CHP). Experience working with nuclear operators, government agencies, or environmental remediation contractors.
