Snapshot of the Role As a Senior Engineer, you’ll help launch a brand-new product vertical at MasterClass, building core backend systems and shaping the technical foundation from day one. You’ll partner closely with engineering and product leaders to turn customer insights into scalable, high-impact solutions in a fast-moving, ambiguous environment. Along the way, you’ll deepen your skills in system design, zero-to-one product development, and building for scale—while helping define how a new team and platform come to life. What You Will Do Implement major new features, make performance and reliability improvements Work across our backend tech-stack and AWS infrastructure Partner with engineering leaders to establish the architecture roadmap for our product Collaborate cross-functionally with product and analytics stakeholders About You (Requirements) 6+ years of relevant product development and software engineering experience Solid engineering fundamentals (CS degree is a plus) Fluency in programming languages like Ruby, Java, Go or similar Experience with modern web technologies and frameworks similar to Rails, React, Postgres, Redis, and Kafka Understanding of highly-scalable systems, hosted in cloud platforms, such as AWS, GCP, Azure, or IBM Cloud Creative thinker who enjoys fast-paced environments and is able to work through ambiguity At MasterClass, we believe we put our best work forward when our employees bring together ideas that are diverse in thought. As a company, we have a location based strategy, which means the disclosed range estimate has not been adjusted for any applicable geographic differential associated with the location where the position may be filled. MasterClass’s salary ranges are based on paying competitively for our size and industry. In addition to salary, we also offer equity and comprehensive benefits (medical, dental, vision, flexible PTO, and more). The range listed is for the expectations as laid out in the job description, however we are often open to a wide variety of profiles, and recognize that the person we hire may be less experienced (or more senior) than this job description as posted.
