In this role, you’ll contribute tothe design, development, and integration of GE Smallworld GIS applications thatpower essential operations in the utility and telecom sectors.Requirements Design, develop, and enhance GE Smallworld GIS applicationsfor utility and telecom operations.Build new features and functionalities using the Magikprogramming language.Ensure seamless system integrations through APIs and webservices (REST/SOAP).Diagnose and resolve performance issues, bugs, andapplication errors.Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gatherrequirements and deliver high-quality solutions.Contribute to GIS data modeling, spatial analysis, andmigration activities.Participate in code reviews, provide technical mentorship,and support best development practices. What we are Looking For Application Development and Enhancement: Design, code, test,and deploy enhancements and new features in Smallworld applications using theMagik programming language.Utility Data Model Expertise: Possess strongknowledge of utility-specific Smallworld product suites and their core datamodels, such as Electric Office (EO), Gas Distribution Office (GDO), orPhysical Network Inventory (PNI).System Integration: Work on integration andcustomization using the Magik platform, Smallworld APIs, and web services(REST/SOAP) to connect with other business applications (e.g., OMS, BSS, OSS).Troubleshooting and Support: Diagnose and resolvecomplex production issues, performance problems, and application errors.Data Management: Have expertise in GIS data modeling,spatial analysis, and data migration strategies to or from Smallworld VersionManaged Data Store (VMDS).Collaboration and Documentation: Collaborate withcross-functional teams (GIS analysts, network engineers, testers) to gatherrequirements and deliver solutions. Write and maintain technical documentation,including SRS and user manuals.Mentorship and Leadership: Provide technical guidanceand leadership to junior developers and participate in code reviews andknowledge sharing sessions.Configuration and Upgrades: Manage Smallworldconfigurations using tools like Design Manager, Job Manager, and ShortTransaction Manager. Participate in system upgrades, including to newerversions using technologies like Kubernetes. Must Haves: Technical Proficiency: Expertise in Magik programming and object-orientedprogramming (OOP) concepts.Familiarity with Smallworld modules like GSS (GeoSpatialServer), GSA (GeoSpatial Analysis), NIG (Network Inventory Gateway), and EOWeb.Understanding of relational databases (Oracle, SQL Server)and strong SQL skills.Experience with version control systems (Git, SVN) andautomated testing platforms. Utility Domain Knowledge: Deep understanding ofutility industry processes (electric, gas, water, or telecom network data) andassociated concepts like FTTx, Outage Management (OMS), or industrialelectrical concepts.Soft Skills: Strong analytical, problem-solving, anddecision-making skills.
