Responsible for conducting investigations, recommending adequate reserves, monitoring, documenting, and settling/closing claims in an expeditious and economical manner within prescribed authority limits for the line of business. Duties and Responsibilities Analyze, investigate, and evaluate the loss to determine coverage and claim disposition. Utilizes ClaimCenter to document claims and to diary future events or follow‑up. Within prescribed settlement authority for the line of business, establish appropriate reserves for both indemnity and expense and review on a regular basis to ensure adequacy. Make recommendations to set reserves at appropriate level for claims outside of authority level. Prepare comprehensive reports as required. Identify and communicate specific claim trends and account or policy issues to management and underwriting. Manage the litigation process through retention of counsel. Adhere to the line of business litigation guidelines to include budget, bill review and payment. Monitor the case resolution process. Actively participate in mediations and arbitrations within limit of settlement authority. Participate in Claims Global initiatives as required. May provide claims marketing services by participating in meetings with brokers, risk managers and reinsurers. As required, maintain insurance adjuster licenses. Skills & Qualifications Bachelor of Law (LLB) and be admitted to the Quebec Bar OR hold an AMF Commercial‑lines Claims Adjuster license. Advanced level of both French and English communication skills (verbal and written). 3+ years claims/legal experience; or in a related field. Advanced knowledge of claims handling concepts, practices and techniques, including but not limited to coverage issues and product line knowledge. Advanced knowledge of law and insurance regulations. Experience handling complex claims or litigations is desired. Excellent computer skills required: specifically Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Strong team mentality with proven ability to collaborate and interact with peers, managers, colleagues, and clients. Demonstrated strong negotiation skills and an ability to balance competing priorities & meet deadlines.
