Michels Canada is looking for an Estimator, Civil to join our growing preconstruction team Working directly with a team of estimators and proposal specialists, the estimator will be bidding on Civil infrastructure projects related to open‑cut trenching, large‑diameter tunneling, micro tunneling, shaft construction, structural form work and foundations. This position can be based out of our Coquitlam, BC office, in our Canadian headquarters in Nisku, AB, Calgary, AB or Concord, ON. Responsibilities Analyze contract documents to determine project requirements. Contribute to establishing a critical path schedule, including milestones. Complete quantity take-offs for labor, equipment, and materials. Contribute to pricing for general expenses and project‑specific requirements. Document all estimate information for project teams upon award and ensure all documents and data support estimate figures. Conduct risk analysis for review by the assigned project sponsor. Review proposal specifications and attend pre‑bid meetings. Provide conceptual input on complex projects. Track awarded contracts and review competitors. Advise on cost, schedule fluctuations, and material improvements. Explore value engineering opportunities. Review labor and equipment rates. Other duties as needed. Requirements Bachelor’s degree or equivalent trade experience. Minimum 5 years of construction cost estimating and field experience. The desire to win. Led pursuits valued from $1 to $5 million. Knowledge of bid preparation, quantity take‑off, trade contractor procurement, pricing, and bid closing. Understanding of contract terms and identifying risks and opportunities. Strong organizational skills and self‑motivation. Develop and maintain productive relationships with owners, peers, and industry representatives. Experience with Heavy Bid estimating software. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Prior supervision experience is a plus. Languages Must be able to communicate verbally and through written language (by hand and digitally) in English.
