About this Opportunity

This position is responsible for all reservoir engineering related activities for Cavalier. Reporting to the VP, Geoscience, the successful candidate will perform all reserves, economic, portfolio and M&A evaluations. Specifically providing all the reservoir engineering expertise and input into both thermal and cold flow heavy oil assets and opportunities. Initial focus will be on the evaluation, exploitation and development of the existing portfolio and when required M&A opportunities. Because of Cavaliers large portfolio and small team, the ideal candidate would be someone who understands a range of reservoir types from cold flow heavy oil to bitumen. They will be able to develop type curves and economics for developments, ranging from single leg lined laterals to multi well horizontals to SAGD developments. They would have worked several producing fields and have familiarity with different exploitation techniques. This diverse knowledge will allow them to work closely with geologists and facility engineers to create development plans for our extensive holdings. They will have trained at a large company, but are ready for the challenges and opportunities of working on a small team. This role is based in Calgary and is full-time in-office.

Required Skills & Qualifications:
  • Degree in engineering from an accredited institution
  • P. Eng. designation with 10-15 years of reservoir engineering experience in both Thermal and Cold Flow heavy oil development
  • Experience in modern drilling and completions, specifically as it pertains to heavy oil production
  • Extensive expertise in economic modelling and type curve analysis of heavy oil reservoirs
  • Good understanding of reservoir modelling
  • Expertise in ValNav and Geoscout
  • Experience in M&A evaluations
  • Familiarity with development cost estimating
  • Strong presentation skills would be considered an asset
  • Experience working in JVs with partners would be considered an asset
  • Familiarity with Petrel and STARS would be considered an asset
  • Currently reside in or be willing to relocate to the Calgary area and eligible to work in Canada
