About the Role

We are seeking a motivated and creative Editorial and AI Content Assistant to join The Northern Miner Group. The ideal candidate is ideal for soon-to-be or recent graduate pursuing a degree in Journalism, Communications, Geology, or a related field, and with interest in mining and business. You will gain hands-on experience using artificial intelligence for content creation, data scraping for news and insights, and developing strong narrative structures. Opportunities to contribute articles and collaborate with experienced journalists are available.


This paid internship/co-op position offers hybrid work arrangements and requires working from the Toronto office three days each week.

We'll trust you to... (Responsibilities)

Content Creation

  • Utilize AI tools to generate and enhance content for articles, reports and market summaries for print and digital platforms.
  • Assist in content creation, including developing original story ideas, refining narratives, and ensuring readability and journalistic quality.

Research and Data Analysis

  • Conduct research and data scraping (e.g., using Python) to gather news, industry insights, and relevant data to support articles.
  • Analyze data and trends to craft compelling and informative stories, particularly in the mining and business sectors.

Narrative Development

  • Collaborate with senior writers and the editorial team to ensure consistency in content, style, and messaging.


Collaboration and Support

  • Work closely with the editorial team to ensure consistency in content, style, and messaging.
  • Assist with administrative tasks such as scheduling interviews, managing editorial calendars, and coordinating with freelancers.
  • Assist with event coordination and administrative tasks such as managing calendars and scheduling interviews.
  • Track performance metrics of AI-generated content and provide feedback for improvements.

Ad Hoc Duties

  • Undertake additional assignments and duties as assigned.

You'll need to be/have... (Qualifications)

  • Currently enrolled or graduated from a Bachelor’s program or higher in Journalism, Communications, English, Geology, or a related field.
  • Must have experience with AI content tools (e.g., GPT-based tools, Jasper).
  • Proficient in data scraping techniques using tools like Python or similar is a plus.
  • Excellent research, writing, and editing skills with an ability to translate complex information into clear, engaging content.
  • Proficient in using content management systems (CMS) like WordPress.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.
  • Willingness to learn and apply new technologies and methodologies.
  • Passion for the mining industry and a commitment to delivering high-quality journalism.
